Wow has road tax gone up to £260!!!!
Glad you're feeling better.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
I don't know how they classify the cars SA but I only have a 3 year old Zafira. One of my friends has a 5 year old "rollerskate" and only pays £20 per year
Today I also signed up to the new house insurance quote I got last week. I've opted for monthly payments as it was only £8 more to do so and it would have wiped out most of our spare cash if I'd paid upfront. However, I do get £50.50 cashback and a £10 M&S voucher so it's still a good deal.

Hi P - saw the Woolwich attack on TV whilst visiting Mr SA and all I can say is horrific! Absolutely unspeakable!
Don't know what's going to happen with Mr SA's van road tax this year as he won't be able to drive for some time. Maybe we'll have to look into this SORN thing.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Hello Lucky, :hello:
Glad to hear the antib's are kicking in; sounds like your lurgi was a really nasty one!please-let-me-be-lucky wrote: »Just paid £143 for 6 months car tax online. I could cry! Not only at the amount but also at the fact I couldn't afford 12 months (£260!). That means it's due again just before Christmas
:(:(
Goodness me - that is very high for a posh [ie. less than ten year old, lol] car!
Vehicle tax is set by the local council here, so can vary quite a bit depending where one lives. My van has cost the same for the last few years; about £60. But a mate with a similar one who lives ten miles away pays double.. Still peanuts compared to what you're being charged, although there's no SORN here - road tax must be paid to keep the vehicle legal whether or not it's being used.1 -
I dunno if car tax is the same over here or not. Ours depends on engine size and car age. Basically lower emissions = lower tax. I could never afford a full years tax and always had to go with the 6 month option too
:( to the recent news.

I thought that about the emissions too HAW, but didn't think my car would be bad! Just means I will have to work extra hard to gather funds from now til Christmas so I can cover all costs! Robin that's really interesting about the Spanish system!
So I feel even better today :j I've been out in the real world and everything!! We've been to both Mr T's and Mr A's for bargains and then came home and I helped DH paint our bedroom. He did the ceiling himself yesterday as I wasn't up to helping but we both pitched in on the walls today. Will see how it looks when it's dry as to if it needs another coat as I stupidly bought 'normal' paint not 'once' stuff. Pleased to be getting on with it though.
Don't know if I mentioned it but I hadn't actually planted anything on due date like I planned to. I suddenly decided it was too much to have a constant reminder and shelved all plans. However, today at Mr T's they had beautiful Rhododendrons, 2 for £15. They had been one of my choices as they flower in May (the other choice being an Acer) so when I saw them we decided we had to get them. One is pink and the other a deep purple. Now that my emotions aren't running so high they make me smile looking at them.Debts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j

It sounds good to me and you'll find it won't be a constant reminder, more a place to reflect and be able to spend some hours of joy remembering.
I planted a rose bush for my dear little blessings but sadly left it behind when my marriage broke down.

Our car tax is the same as yours plmbl, I also couldn't afford the £260 and had to get the 6 months. Ours will be due in September I think (right after MOT!) So I expect I will have only 6 months money again by then! My car is old. And has a stupidly big engine for town driving. And is probably really bad on emissions too. Wish I could afford a mini like my friend (who also pays £20 a year tax and enjoys telling me each time I see her that it costs her £40 to fill her car up) Bah whatever.MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000.
