Work Programme Provider Pressure To Take Job

Nobody has tried for work as much as I have, so before you start spouting off shallow, objectionable rubbish about being "lazy" etc., wake up to reality. I repeat, wake up to REALITY.
Yet when they offer you the chance to go for a job, you come on here for legit excuses to not go..:cool:0 -
Can I just ask you one question: Would YOU take on a job if it wasn't quite suitable? You know, you've got to be a bit more practical about these things. Yes, I WANT a job, but at the same time, I am not going to take on a role that takes ages to get to, has appalling hours etc. Look at this way, who would be the first to complain if I had difficulty making it on time every morning due to lengthy travel distance involved? The MANAGER, that's who, who would no doubt show me the door after maybe just two days lateness.Yet when they offer you the chance to go for a job, you come on here for legit excuses to not go..:cool:0

Yes i would, I am a computer hardware engineer by trade. Right now i am working on the shopfloor in my local asda.
Hardly what i am used to, but better then being on the dole wouldn't you say..?.0 -
Yes, working in ASDA IS better than being on the dole. I am not disputing that. In fact, did you know I have applied to ASDA myself, but can't get past the online test as thousands apply at the same time and get higher marks. Very hard to even get a job in a supermarket now, never mind an office!
But let me ask you this: is your supermarket job easy to get to? Are the hours agreeable? Obviously they must be, otherwise you wouldn't have taken it.Yes i would, I am a computer hardware engineer by trade. Right now i am working on the shopfloor in my local asda.

I have recently started The Work Programme and have been offered a job by the provider's advisor which I do not really want to take, mainly because it's night work and is a fair distance away from where I live. However, despite my expressed reluctance, the provider still insisted that I go for the interview. I think this putting unfair pressure on me, and so I would like to ask you all this:
If you refuse to take a job offered by a Work Programme provider, can they stop your money?
If its within an hours travelling, I hope so. Once you've been unemployed 6 months you're supposed to apply for any job you are capable of doing.0 -

Why would you be late? Are you too stupid to work out you need to set off at a certain time to get there?
As a fully qualified electronics engineer, in the recession of the 1990's I spent 14 hrs a day putting cheese circles on turkey burgers on a production line at a food factory because that was the only work there was.
Most of my working life I've commuted 30 miles EACH WAY because there's not much work where I lived in the type of work I was doing.
When times are hard, you take what you can.0 -
But this job WASN'T within an hour's travel; it was MILES away from where I live. Would never have made it in on time every day.
But you've not said how many miles it was. My brother for most of the past 5 years has worked between 60 and 150 miles away from home. Its only recently that he's got a job nearby and even that is 25 miles away.0 -
Also if you're doing a night job you might well be too tired during the day to look for the job you really want to take.
Rubbish. I've worked nights, lots of them, doing 12hr shifts and travelling 30 miles each way. And I've had three hours a day which I could have used for job hunting.0 -

Supermarket is a few miles away... i start at 5am every day, so hours no not really, moreso as i am a single father, but not too far distance wise.
But that aside i used to travel from sutton to winchester everyday by car when i was en engineer and that was a 130 mile a day round trip.0
