How to get out of paying TV license (yes, REALLY)

Technically in the UK even recording a program and playing it back later as your out / busy (timeshifting) is breaking copyright as you don't have the rights to make a copy but has never been enforced and would probalby be unworkable anyway.
Section 70 of the Copyright Act specifically makes recording for time shifting legal.
"The making in domestic premises for private and domestic use of a recording of a broadcast solely for the purpose of enabling it to be viewed or listened to at a more convenient time does not infringe any copyright in the broadcast or in any work included in it."
However, recording something and keeping it forever isn't legal. Nor is selling the recording. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Tv licence is daylight robbery, paying the BBC a ridiculous amount of money to watch TV that's not even produced by them, and to fund their radio channels which you might not even listen to.
CRAZY
How on earth is this a real LAW?? :mad:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Tina20 - if you're watching Freeview or listening to DAB, your TV licence pays for the infrastructure that broadcasts it. It doesn't all get spent on Eastenders!0

iPlayer programs are not available for viewing until the program has finished broadcasting on normal TV.
The iPlayer interface also offers a watch live function0 -
There lies the problem, getting a you to become a person with a name and confirm it.
100% correct and this is why the BBC use Public Relation firms like Fishburn Hedges to intimidate the public into contacting them. Now if the public take the bait the BBC have a person.
If you take a look at one of their latest letters which suggest they are taking you to court (they aren't) you can see how its done.

Loads of gullible people will fall for that and the BBC have them once that happensgemmanemesis1 wrote: »they will send someone round to check on you remotely with a detector, and as long as you are not doing
No that's to intimidate people again, detector vans are a myth which is why the BBC declined to answer a FOI on them and why its never been used in a British court. The trouble is, if you answer the door to capita and sign his bit of paper, they tell lies and fill the rest in later, so you are not in much of a different situation than the dodgers.
Agreed because the BBC TV Sales goons have harsh targets to meet and get commission so its pretty widespread too.what they say on their website is one thing but
they told me if you have the ability then you need a licence i myself was prosecuted and sent to jail for not paying it
They done that to you because you communicated with them, I've been BBC TV Licence free for over 21yrsThe TV License also covers Radio.
Better get rid of those too
OMG do you really think you need a BBC TV Licence for radio?Kurtis_Blue wrote: »Get a grip, If you are going to get angry about something delve a little deeper the TVL is £150, it is nothing.
Why should I or anyone else be forced to subsidise your entertainment if we wish to watch non BBC channels ?
How would you feel if a neighbour knocked on your door and demanded you pay towards his cable or satilite TV ?Tina20 - if you're watching Freeview or listening to DAB, your TV licence pays for the infrastructure that broadcasts it. It doesn't all get spent on Eastenders!
WRONG, why do some people wish to push misinformation here. The transmitters are privately owned by companies like SDN and Crown Castle0 -

LOL I bet my taxes pay for a hell of a lot of Sky and virgin subs.0 -

Then you should complain to the BBC because I can assure you Sky and Virgin Media do not force the BBC to do anything.
If the truth be known the BBC are doing this because they know if Sky and Virgin Media didn't carry BBC channels there would be even more reasons to abolish their ruddy TV Licence..................god forbid their gravy train got abolished0 -
The Safordian - thanks for the correction - I'm sure I've heard though that the Licence fee goes towards the broadcasting infrastructure - even some transmitters are privately owned - is that a lie?0

without sounding rude i dont think you are correct unless you are blind or over 75 then you need a license to watch tv.
if they took you to court you have no way of proving you dont watch live tv.
They replied letting me know that as long as I did not watch live TV or connect a TV antennae to the equipment I was ok. I might still have the reply email. If I find it I will post it here once I get home.:beer::beer:0 -
