This was never gonna be honoured, due to probable amount of orders taken.

It didn't help when a bright spark decided to call them to let them know about it.

From my experience of mis-prices, the more time the company concerned have between the orders being placed and despatch, the higher the chances of orders being cancelled.

    Nothing ventured and nothing gained.

What's the point about legal contact?

Why should a company sell you a product for the fraction of the real price?

Just move on to the next offer.

Like I said in an earlier post, the fact that they have taken the money in my understanding forms a legally binding contract between you (the buyer) and them (the seller). There has been invitation to treat (their website listing), offer (your credit card payment) and acceptance (them taking the money from your card). They can try and put whatever T&C's they like, but they don't mean it's the law!

Can I just say I'm not involved here as I didn't order so am not having a whinge about not getting it, all I'm saying is this would appear to be a classic case of a contract being broken by Additions. Totally up to the individual how they pursue this (or not, of course)...

I think companies that take the money immediately on order like this are very arrogant and then to hide behind their T&C's when it all blows up in their faces is laughable.

I agree, but there are very few cases where the seller has taken it on the chin and shipped out products at a loss - when clearly there has been a misprice.

I'm old enough to remember the Kodak fiasco.

Have just spoken to the Office of Fair Trading - as a colleague believed that a contract was formed once money taken from my account.
I've been advised to send a letter to Additions, asking for a satisfactory resolution within 7 working days. Also tell them that unless a resolution is found, the OFT will open an investigation into Additions under "Misrepresentation of Price Indication"....the girl at OFT advised me to go down this route.
Will send the letter this afternoon and see what happens.
BTW, was advised by someone at Additions that the ring should have been advertised at £799 - so worth pursuing maybe?

Maybe it was a quiet day ay Consumer Direct? I'll bet you a fiver that you don't end up with a ring. :)

Well, maybe not - but I'm going to give it a shot anyway, got nothing to lose right?
Lead me not into temptation - I can find it perfectly well all by myself :D

Curious to hear the official reason for my ring being cancelled (I didn't get the email saying so until much later) I sent them an email... this was their reply:
Thank you for your email about the cancellation of your order. ML70512
    PLATINUM 1/3CT SOLITAIRE RING .

My records show this was cancelled at the request of the customer and
    your
order has now been cancelled with our suppliers.

I hope this resolves your enquiry but if we can be of any further help,
please do not hesitate to contact us again.

...ummm??? Request of the customer? I don't think so!

Everyone's got their fingers crossed - not much point in buying a ring is there?

I ordered one yesterday and got confirmation, getting the same deal re: discount but not too bothered about £10 when there's about £600 at stake.

I can't help but think some bright spark has tried to pay off their mortgage by buying 200 of them, which is how they suddenly sold out of all sizes. Either that or some wannabe gangsta rappa has gone on a bling-fest....

I've only just noticed this thread (don't know how I missed it lol) It seems obvious why they 'ran out' of stock so quickly: Who in their right mind would ring them up, surely alerting them to their mistake' to ask whether it would be honoured. Couldn't believe my eyes when I read this on the 1st page - ruined it for everyone bright spark!

Ahhh doesn't matter now, they were bound to find out eventually, with a 2 week delivery estimate. What we need is more "deals" like that with options of Next Day Delivery ;)
