    Just received this e-mail:

    Dear Mr Naxton

"Further to your recent order request for a ring (ml70512), please be
advised that there was a price error on our website and the price shown
was incorrect. We are therefore declining your order request in accordance
with clauses 2.2 and 3.2 of our terms and conditions, which can be viewed
on the website help pages. The ring price has now been amended if you wish
to order at the correct price."

    Kind Regards
    Customer Support
    Additions Direct

Was definitely worth a try though!!

Have just spoken to the Office of Fair Trading - as a colleague believed that a contract was formed once money taken from my account.
I've been advised to send a letter to Additions, asking for a satisfactory resolution within 7 working days. Also tell them that unless a resolution is found, the OFT will open an investigation into Additions under "Misrepresentation of Price Indication"....the girl at OFT advised me to go down this route.
Will send the letter this afternoon and see what happens.
BTW, was advised by someone at Additions that the ring should have been advertised at £799 - so worth pursuing maybe?

Sent me a email as to why they cancelled my order, one of the get out clauses was -3.2 Whilst it is our intention to keep our website up to date and error free, product description or pricing errors may occur. If we discover such an error after you have submitted an order to us, we will contact you prior to accepting your order with the correct details. You may then either cancel your order or re-confirm it based on the correct information. If we are unable to contact you, we will treat your order as cancelled.
They never contacted me PRIOR to accepting order order has been showing as accepted since about saturday,i have copies of all this.definately worth taking them on with this one.

I take it your earlier phone call has now been followed by an email
an email from Additions? No, absolutely no contact from them at all, I found the order had been cancelled by clicking the 'track order' link on the website. Definitely going to pursue this one, especially considering that money had been taken from my account and was showing as accepted, and no attempt made to contact me prior to that to cancel / discuss the order (thanks member02 for highlighting that part of the clause)

  • This was never gonna be honoured, due to probable amount of orders taken.

It didn't help when a bright spark decided to call them to let them know about it.

From my experience of mis-prices, the more time the company concerned have between the orders being placed and despatch, the higher the chances of orders being cancelled.

    Nothing ventured and nothing gained.

What's the point about legal contact?

Why should a company sell you a product for the fraction of the real price?

Just move on to the next offer.

Well consumer direct thinks we have a case, even stronger case if paid with a credit card rather than amount put on account, they accepted the order, they sent a email confirming order and expected delivery date, they took payment from credit card(which they refunded today)no attemp to contact customers prior to cancelling our orders,A CONTRACT HAD BEEN MADE UNDER OFFER AND ACCEPTANCE,THEY HAD ACCEPTED ORDER AND TAKEN PAYMENT,THEY SENT A EMAIL CONFIRMING ORDER AND DELIVERY.if you cannot see any point pursuing this then dont, but when the consumer direct people advise taking action thats good enough for me.
