  • I had a visit from a very peristent girl representing VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas) despite a no cold call sticker on my door. Annoying.

Empathy? A cold call is still a cold call. Can't you see that?

Oh I know you have a sign saying No Parking and I know it's a nuisance but but I thought I'd ignore it ....

    Hi

I hate cold callers as much as you, but was just offering the poster above who is an avon lady some suggestions.

Sorry, maybe it was a bad suggestion afterall.
I hate cold callers and also agree how bad it is for the lady above and other disabled people to get up and answer the door just to see a stranger, wanting your attention and money stood there.

Is there a legal position with people who insist on posting you catalogues and insisting you leave them to collect in n days?

Betaware and Avon regularly leave them for me and don't seem to understand that I'm not interested so more recently I've worked on the assumption that if something is posted onto my property unsolicited then it becomes mine to do what I want with... and it goes straight into the recycling bin :D

I have a porch with a shoe cupboard/rack in and I leave the catalogues on them, in view but unable to be collected.

Recycle them after about a week.

I don't seem to get them again.
  • Several charities, including WWF, all of whom say they are not selling anything. True, but they are trying to part me and my money.

Its about time the government banned cold calls once and for all no matter who they are, at the very least make the companies accountable and be able to fine them if people put notices up. Anyone who ignores the sign faces discipline

I do not want these parasites at my door no matter who they are I dont give a damn

I would rather they were simply banned and only allowed to call at properties displaying a sign saying they were welcome. It should be lawful to take any action you like against scum who call uninvited.

I'm sure it would be nice to see stricter, more enforceable laws, when it comes to cold callers, but marketing has gone a bit insane and is getting more predatory and intrusive.
Charities are more into using business models in their work.
    JW have always been intrusive.
It is part of capitalism, money rules first, people come last.
    Sad but true.

I had an extremely awkward experience being on the other side of the door...

I was doing a trial day as a charity fundraiser for UNICEF, and shadowing a more experienced girl (I say that, she'd only been there 3 weeks). We got to a door that had a sign saying "I am a night shift worker and currently asleep. Please do not knock if you are trying to sell me something- that includes charity!". I pointed out the sign to the girl I was with, and said we should move on. She said outright "Nah, doesn't matter, rather have the chance at getting the sign up, just ignore anything that says that".

So when this poor woman came to the door looking shattered and fuming asking why on earth we'd knocked, the girl I was shadowing said "Oh we didn't notice it". I was so embarressed I just wanted the ground to swallow me. This happened again later with an old man. The whole day was a truely horrible experience.

So yeah, UNICEF and other people who are part of Black Code advertising ignore the signs and are very blase when they're pointed out.

Had the RSPCA at the door before - who the hell would sign up at the door giving out their details to a stranger with a clipboard and a made up tag

Every charity asking for 'only' £3 a week just like my neighbours

I'm not my neighbours and I certainly don't beleive every single one of them has for every charity

But why do they ignore? Cause they hope they will be different cause they're a charity

I give what I can when I can
