My MiL has just had one of these so called PCNs drop on her doorstep this morning. It showed her car entering the car park, and then leaving the car park. I asked what the driver had alledgedly done and she didn't know. When I checked the PCN there is no reason for the charge other than the car has been parked in a private car park. They've also requested the driver signs something so they can access nhs records to prove the driver visited the walk in centre. There's no proof the driver left the car and left the car park.

I told her to ignore it having seen the stuff on Watchdog and on here. But I'm fuming. My in laws are pensioners and this fine is £90. There's no reason on the PCN for the fine and the car park also feeds an nhs walk in centre and a local university so the request may have "proved" the driver used the car park illegally (which they wouldn't have, the signs are for both walk in centre and university building). They thought they'd have to pay for not actually doing anything contravening car park policies, just £90 for the priviledge of parking.

    Arrgghh :mad::mad::mad:

Whaaaaaatttt?????????????? Tell us more about the bit in bold?!!

It's not a fine so don't let them fall for this scam. Did you sit them down and make dure they also watched the Watchdog clip in full?

You could also give them printouts of all the preview pics of the threatograms - in order - and get them to have a look at the letters up front now, so they can just play PPC snap when each matching template arrives.

They are of an age where they might just fold and pay and not tell you straight away - so as much info as you can provide to them about this con will be needed, and support of course to reiterate each time that an official-looking letter threatening Court is STILL a scam.

Finally, how about you reply to the threatogram and ask for clarification of the 'alleged offence'. NOT because there is any offence and not because you care what the reply will say - but because it MAY deflect the future threatograms to you. Use your address and don't give them your real signature (use a squiggle) as these firms are scammers. Worth a try, don't actually say who was driving though - you could say 'the registered keeper of car reg xxxxxx has passed your letter dated xxxxxx to me and I cannot understand why this has been issued...blah blah...please explain why you consider that I owe you money...' (still not actually suggesting who was driving as such). Just to reel them into writing to you instead.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Are they trying to make the car park free if you use the drop-in centre, but £90 if you don't?

Awful isn't it? When she first told me that's what rang alarm bells more than in may not be genuine. I've never heard of the council asking to prove you've used x, y or z to avoid your fine. Thankfully MiL wasn't willing to sign that, thinking of paying rather than give them access to that. It said it was to get proof the driver was a patient of the centre, but it just seemed so dodgy.

Even more thankfully FiL is tech savvie and has checked this all out himself after my tip off. They definitely are not paying!

It's meant to be free if you use the walk in centre or are going to the university buildings. The fine is meant to be if you leave the premises (its about 10mins walk from a station so I assume they want to ensure proper parkers use it).

Though apparently they're trying a more speculative tack on "fining"

So, I have literally just received one of these letters. I parked on Bank Holiday Monday outside a Magnet Kitchen showroom. I spent a few hours in there looking at kitchens and going through a design with the salespeople in there. We then booked an appointment for about an hour later, so we popped over the road for lunch and then came back to go through a more detailed design. Overall we were there for a long time.

I am going to contact Magnet to understand what is going on here, as I am somewhat confused. The time limit according to ParkingEye is 2 hours. I am astounded therefore that every person who goes to Magnet to run through a kitchen design isn't receiving one of these notices.

I have to say I am extremely angry at the moment. The letter is very threateningly worded and seems to be put together to look like an official council letter or the like. I am certainly in no hurry to respond to anything and will be ignoring until I get some reply from Magnet.

So, "charge" everyone £90, unless you prove that you were visiting the right place?

How do you do that with the university? Send them your degree certificate? :)

Hope You are now going to tell magnet that you are not proceeding with the order because they have a parking company that harass people in their car park, send it to their head office with a photocopy of the threatening letter you have.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

It does seem they are getting more desperate, doesn't it? Absolutely outrageous demands, which I suppose they make on the basis that the recipients of them don't believe that they have any choice but to comply as it looks so official..
