Hi,
Could someone help please, if they can.
My laptop was working this morning but was very slow and got stuck. After re-starting it, it now won't come on properly.
It is a Toshiba laptop 64 bit, running windows 7, it is 18 months old.
I can't get it into safe mode.
This error has come up -
STOP: 0X00000050 (9X8555A3FC, 0X00000000, 0X8555A3FC, 0X00000000)
disk.sys - Address 8555A3FC base at 85559000, Datestamp 00000000
Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it please.

do you get a blue screen aswell?
did you recently add a install program?
did you recently do a windows update?
Do you have any restore disks?
Have you backed up all your photos and documents which are important to you?
Could be hardware failure, hopefully not the hard drive.ewwwww what is that...0 -
do you get a blue screen aswell?
Not before this error happened, no.
did you recently add a install program?
No
did you recently do a windows update?
No
Do you have any restore disks?
No
Have you backed up all your photos and documents which are important to you?
No, I recently copied my photos onto disc but the disc wouldn't work.
Could be hardware failure, hopefully not the hard drive.
If I have to loose whats on there I don't mind too much I just want it working again.
Thanks for your reply.0 -
ok well if you wanted all your work backed up, it is not too late, otherwise, I would think about using your restore disk if you have one?
Or a restore option on the keyboard? look on toshibas website under you laptop will give you the model number of your laptop,
and this page for the manual, your toshiba will have a built in restore option so visit this page to see how to activate it

Thanks.
It is a Satellite C660-10T. Part No. PSCOLE-00J00JEN.
I have looked at your links above and will have a good read of them now, but I am not sure what I am meant to be doing, I don't know a lot about computers.0 -
ok looked up your manual and this is what it reads:
whilst holding the F8 key turn on the computer, and then select repair cmoputer you will probably have to use the arrow keys to select that option.
fingers crossed that works.ewwwww what is that...0 -
Thanks
I have tried that but it won't work.
Whilst I am holding F8 the Toshiba screen stays on, saying to press F2 or F12. When I let go of F8 I get a blank screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner but nothing happens.0 -
did you hold it dow for awhile? when you switch it on normally does give the same error?
basically it does not load into windows?
Can you hear any clicking sounds from the hard drive? bascially does it sound healthy ?
If you have a hard drive failure you will probably need to buy a new one, they are very easy to install, and then you will need to purchase the recovery software for your laptop, you can do that online with toshiba or call them up and order it, I don't think it is free though.
Without looking at the laptop i can't really tell if the hard drive is at fault or anything else such as the graphics card etc...ewwwww what is that...0 -
Yes I held it down for quite a while, the same thing happens when it is switched on normally.
No windows is not loading at all.
I can't hear any clicking sounds and it sounds ok to me.
The lid was slammed shut quite hard just before this happened so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.
Thanks for your help.0 -
is there any crackling sound coming from the hard drive? or is there an indicator on the latop such as a green light with hard drive symbol next to it? the hard drive symbol will look like 3 semi cicles neatly packed on top of each other.
Does the green light flicker? stay on? or not light up at all?ewwwww what is that...0 -
No crackling sound, it sounds like it usually does.
I can't see anything that looks like a hard drive symbol and the only lights on is the power supply, which is not flickering and num lock.0
