Cleaner stealing things..?

Sorry if this has already been said but if you went through an agency they should have insurance for incidents like this. You may find they pay up to sweep the incident under the carpet. If it goes to court their name will be dragged through the mud.MSE aim: more thanks than posts :j0

is there any news?0

I used to clean for an agency. I was also a very honest cleaner, there are lots of us, but the odd few give us a bad name!
As someone else has suggested, the agency will have (or should have) insurance. Why should you have to claim on yours and have your premiums go up?
Really hope you get it sorted OP. The police should be treating it as burglary if you have reported it.
I once had my purse stolen from home after inviting somebody in, the police took it very seriously as it was classed as burglary, and sent crime scene round to fingerprint.
So if you had jewellery put away, where she shouldn't have been, they should fingerprint and build a better case.0 -
My cleaner is TOO honest. I came back last week to find a broken part of the vacuum cleaner sitting outside the cupboard.
In the kitchen was a refund of her wages, and very apologetic note about breaking the hoover.
I couldn't get in touch with her to reassure her that I didn't require a contribution towards the broken vacuum (I got her mobile number years ago, and it's changed) and am hoping that she will turn up as usual tomorrow, and hasn't run off scared! She's very much a part of the household, and has been with me for years!0 -
I'd love to have a cleaner but I'm too embarrased at the state of my house to let one come round!0

Slightly off-topic but how often do people have cleaners come? Our household income is going to increase from October and we are seriously considering a cleaner as I'm hopeless cleaning as it is but I have no idea if you are meant to have them once a week or once a fortnight or what.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

Don't be - it's giving someone work who wants it, and making your life better.
I've had a couple of cleaners who didn't want to deal with cat litter, some really good ones, some slackers, and one who loved ironing. All kinds of people become cleaners, and you just have to find a nice decent person who fits in with your household.0 -
You can have whatever frequency you like. I usually have a weekly clean but if I'm going through a particularly busy time, eg with a newborn or when ill sometimes have someone twice weekly. Others though might have someone once a fortnight or even once a month if they don't have kids and their house doesn't get too messy.0

I used to have them twice a week, but since my husband's death, there have been financial cutbacks. However, I do have cats, which makes for quite a heavy workload.
It depends on what you expect from a cleaner, what you want done. I suspect most expect to appear weekly, but if it really doesn't matter to you, then give them carte blanche as to whether to appear weekly or fortnightly or monthly, and on whichever days they prefer.
One of my friends lives alone, in a three bedroom house. He initially wanted a cleaner, and for them to come on weekends.
I advised him to have them come during the week, or at least on Sundays. This is because I know he likes to go out drinking on Friday evening, and on Saturday, he tends to like a lie in, nursing a hangover.
Having a cleaner loudly hoovering and moving furniture around him on a Saturday would be good if someone really wanted to torture him, and on a regular basis! Lol.0 -

That brings back memories of uni, we had a cleaner who would regularly find us hungover when she came to hoover.
I'll have to give it some thought - weekly might be good because although there are no kids/pets my weekly clean only seems to last a few days. Ideally I'd want someone to do kitchen/bathroom, mop, hoover and dust everywhere else. Will have to call up to get some quotes. Do you have to book quite far in advance or will a few weeks notice do?Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0
