We won't be having a holiday this year (unless ERNIE decides that the numbers he's been 'ignoring' for half-a-century should see the light of day) and I will brook NO complaints about it. We've had a new kitchen. I'm not a miracle worker!
I can't help thinking that the kids who 'get' don't appreciate. And are in for a heck of a shock when they need to buy homes and cars (in fact, if the parents put the money into ISAs then there would be money available when needed).

I agree. Mine are very young and although dd has 3 phones they are all toy ones lol.
My dh had insurance, so we have some money tucked away. But this is most definitely for college fees, or setting up homes.
Not to be used to keep up with the jones'.
Although we might need a new boiler soon... HahaBossymoo

Morning Everyone!
Another day waking up to the sun shining :j
My boys are 5 and 4 and this year we didn't even buy them birthday gifts
. My Mum, Dad and sister always buy them so much (20 presents each this birthday) and we get to the point of thinking, what else do they want or need? They get so much money spent on them that we have to work hard to teach them respect. I have asked on lots of occasions for there to be a limit to what the buy but they just think I'm ungrateful . I'm really not but at this age they are happy with the simple things and I do worry that expectations do get bigger the older they get. Rant over!
We are in pretty good shape here. Friends expected around 10/11 and they will be here until the little ones go to bed so not long to FLY today. Aims are:
1. Sweep and mop all the downstairs
2. DW
3. HHI
4. Put all clothes away
5. Tidy playroom
6. Tidy garden
7. Double check toilets
8. Work on frog list
9. Systematically clear dishes into DW whilst cooking to aviod it building up
10. Prepare dinner - cut veg, peel potatoes etc
That'll do I think!
Enjoy your Sunday!

Morning lovelies!
Dusty: Thought's for Ed, I was thinking about him the other day wondering if there was any improvement xx
It's sunny but it's cold, but hoping to get some towels on the line for a blow. Just taking it easy today, after a hard week at work and all my ranting yesterday I feel slightly exhausted
shopping trip was successful though, 40 extra hangers for littley, new sweeping brush, sealer for the bath, some rad hangers, and 3 door keys cut.
I am going to have a potter cos the LR is a bit untidy- well, the coffee table, and I need to load the DW with a few bits, set the WM away and unload the TD, hang out the washing when it's finished.

ben woke me up at 6 so has just gone down for his morning nap, so far ive stripped my bed, got a load of washing in, decluttered photos from the camera onto the ipad and onto facebook and opened curtains and windows. ive also done an online shop for delivery tomorrow and included the ingrediants for making dh a fruit cake for when he is home. thinking if i make a couple it will keep him happy especially as they taste better the longer you leave them.
off to shower, then make my bed whilst ben is sleeping
valli - i should point out that i dont own either of those handbags, i just wish i did! dh would have a fit if i spent that on a bag. i did once buy a £500 handbag, but as its a limited edition and signed by the designer its gone up in value so thats my most expensive handbag purchase back in the days when i was living at home and single and loving the credit card.
re the kids and presents, im torn on this as i was a spoilt brat and got pretty much what i wanted, but my parents did give us limits i.e £50 birthdays and £150 christmas, pushing the boat out a bit more for big birthdays. we didnt go abroad till i was 15 and then we had a huge once in a lifetime holiday to disneyland in florida. i did get stuff through the year though and feel thats partly why i ended up in debt as i was so used to wanting it and getting it and having my parents behave that way as well so it was a HUGE shock when i moved out and had to live on my wage alone. i did work from 13 though as a saturday girl in a shop and babysat regularly from a young age so wasnt afriad to go out and earn my own money. it really depends what values they have been taught. dh has had to re-educate me on some stuff and me him as he is so against credit cards its unreal, but now he has 1 for emergencies and big purchases, but the only way he is comfortable using it, is if its cleared off asap and he gets antsy if there is a huge balance on it before the statement is due and will pay part of it off before he has to.0 -
I see we are all likeminded on kids present values!
For the record we bought DS3 the new england football kit with his name on the back. Cost 63 quid. He will wear it all summer so it offers excellent value for money! His siblings bought him the moshi monsters DS game between them. He is over the moon.
I'm home alone today - they've all gone to centreparcs for the day with the rest of DH's family. I have about 8 loads of washing to process and am planning a 16 mile walk this afternoon with two fellow moonwalkers.
I'm going to sort out all the school stuff for tomorrow because they won't get back til around 9 tonight and will be tired in the morning. School shoes need some polish and I need to write some cheques for school swimming lessons and school trips.
Best get on with it!0 -
morning
awake early this morning
as DH decided to bring me a mug of tea when he came in from work at 630, I didnt know whether to laugh or cry.
Have since had breakfast, unloaded and reloaded DW, done 2 loads of TD as the back yard has become a car park.
Just waiting for DH to go back to bed then I will shower and dress and start sorting the dinner with instructions for whoever is here to put in before I get home from work.
Birthdays and Christmas, I always tell the children that they can choose an item up to £50 then if I have spare cash I will buy them more, however if they ask for this and that then they will only get one of them unless they both together come under the limit. DH however has different ideas for DD. She is only 13 and as an older father who is a year from retirement, he feels he wants to spoil her while he has the chance to, his job means he is facing death every day and is fully aware of people dying younger than he is. It sounds a bit morbid but for him its reality. Thats why I stuck to my guns, but he bought her a laptop last year and an ipod touch this year. I dont agree with it but I do see his point and he is her parent too and therefore can also do things his way. I do however ensure that she doesnt take things for granted!
Right if I dont get started I wont get anything done so will catch you all later.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -

Jue... I've already done mine
I've ironed two weeks in a row now
Brought the towels back in off the line and stuck them in the TD as it's now decided to rain and then snow *shrugs* only tiny miniscule flakes but snow all the same.
Been to the shop for milk and my monthly mag so had a brew and perused the glossy pages. Kitcheny things done, washing up to date, weeks ironing all done, just need to buy some more hangers for littley before I can hang them all up.
Cleared her room ready for decorating and on closer inspection it's a lot worse than I thought (will involve taping/jointing and some plastering and filling), so, I asked OH if he'll do it, I don't have the time nor the know-how to do it, it would take me weeks and it would only take him a week from start to finish probably. Hope he can fit it in... fingers crossed.
Off for a ciggie then a sleep, I'm knackered x0
