Managed to get most of the clothes put away (probably temporarily) and the bed made. Have to work out which bedding goes with the new curtains. The current one, which I thought would, doesn't really... I need to find a lampshade as this one can go in the spare room, and then move some pictures round, and possibly get a new mirror and move this one into the spare room as well.

I can see it taking some time to get things straight again!

Making hot water bottles, then off to bed...

:oWell, yet again I'm going to try and keep my house from falling apart and I need Flylady help.

I'm going to do Level 1 everywhere tomorrow - not too difficult as everyone and I mean EVERYONE (DS take note) will help - and then follow the steps from Monday properly.

It's nice to 'see' some familiar faces and some new ones - so much has happened in our family since I last posted that it would take a whole thread but a snapshot would be, redundancy, sacked, new job, new job again, heart attack (all of this happened to DH)... So I think things getting a bit cluttered are excusable, especially as it's still not as bad as when I very first joined the forum.

Hope everyone is fit and well - I haven't read all this weeks thread so hugs to anyone that needs them.

    GTx

@Valli - oh yes, in all our moneysaving endeavours, insurance was never cancelled so over Christmas we were actually financially better off!!! He's back at work now and I should say in better shape than ever, but we're about £500 worse off each month :p

I'm having a better day today thank you ladies for your support. Zoo then pizza express both on MSE dosh saving advice.

DS3 had a lovely birthday and is sleeping in his new football kit. A contemporary of his also celebrated today - got a new iPad .

Am I alone in thinking this is inapropriate for a 7 year old? What do you get them on their 21st Speedboat? Ferrari? Lifetime ticket to Old Trafford?

Bittersweet day for me - my Nan passed over 2 years go today. Much family angst has been caused and it plays on my mind.

I agree completely - we've never been extravagant for birthdays or Christmas and our 2 are in they're late teens now and appreciate what they do receive and work hard and save up for the more expensive things themselves. How do you learn the true value of things otherwise?

Some of you may know that I work in an affluent area.
I have had Y3 children come up to me and say they got i pads; smart phones (i phones) etc for xmas and birthdays.

Even had a 7 yo tell me he got a lap top for xmas because his parents 'didn't know what else to get him'.

We have discussed this in the staff room before - what DO you do when they are 18 or 21 if all this has been done...

and these children look at me 'gone out' when I get cross that the felt tips haven't had their lids put on, or pencils have been dropped on the floor and have snapped, having been trodden on or handrwiting pens (47p each) have to be replaced because they have been mislaid. We are on such a tight budget our photcopying is mionitored, we have lost TA hours and these kids just don't realise school has NO 'spare' money. When these children 'lose' coats/drinks bottles etc parents just go out and buy new...

    *gets off soapbox*

    It's crazy.

Our DD was given £100 by us for her 16th and was over the moon because when she added this to the money she had been given by other family members she was able to buy a SLR camera she wanted for college (she does a-level photography).

The pride and care she takes of the camera are so much more than that of her peers whose parents just seem to give them what ever they want
