The letter was from student loans - I should have guessed that really! When I asked OH what it was, he told me. My next question was 'Debt Collection Agency?' - Yes, was the answer.
So it is quite clear that when he got the letter about his student loans some months ago, he did absolutely nothing about it. I'm not surprised really! In fact my feeling about this is more like this:Is anything ever going to change?!
I have given him strict instructions about not burying his head in the sand and as I was going out this morning I told him to deal with it. I shan't let go of it!PigginSkint's debt free diary

Ooh thanks! Where did you find that one? It's fab!
And thanks for posting on my diary!
I collared OH last night and asked him to do me a favour and tell me what his letter said as I had been mithering about it all day (which I had). He fished it out and showed it to me. It is clear that he hadn't actually read it properly the first time because he was surprised at what it said. They want him to complete a standing order mandate to pay £40 a month. That's nothing really and as he says, that's do-able. So I am actively encouraging him to get it done - soon! He has to reply within 7 days.PigginSkint's debt free diary

Hi All
Just a quick update from me today - I have been battling all day against a headache which doesn't seem to want to shift.
OH was in London again today - a recall for the audition he went for the other day. Filming next week if he gets it. As it was a recall they will also be paying his travel expenses. Woohoo!!
He is back there again tomorrow for yet another audition. This time for a play - 3 months work on good money if he gets it. We'll have to wait and see.
Right, I think I am going wait until I have eaten my dinner and then I shall go to bed. I'm doing chick pea balti - jar of balti sauce from Aldi (59p) tin of chick peas from Sainsburys (approx 40p), basics long grain rice from Sainsburys (perhaps about 10p worth) and a naan bread from Aldi (just one between us so about 20p). Not bad for 2 of us!
I'll be back on tomorrow, hopefully feeling a little bit better!PigginSkint's debt free diary

Hi Piggin - I find a lot of the smilies on hystersisters.com as well as a few other sites lol there is some really good ones! Glad that OH's letter wasn't as bad as you thought I suppose £40 a month is not bad? My OH is quite good as throwing things in draws without opening them for weeks!! But thankfully we don't live together, he lives on his own and I live with my kids and dogs, I'm in debt and he's [STRIKE]tight[/STRIKE] sensible with moneyDebt @ LBM - £25,722 Debt now - £11,811 DFD - April 2012

Hi All
I didn't get back on the computer again because I felt ill all weekend - headache and stomach ache that never seemed to shift. Both are still lingering today and this morning I got a touch of heartburn on my way to work - completely the wrong time of day for me to get heartburn, which is a bit of a puzzle!
OH bought me choccies for Valentine's Day, which was a very pleasant surprise - a couple of years ago we agreed just to do cards as February is such a birthday-heavy month!
Anyway, here I am back at work - but for only 3 days this week. Woohoo! :j DS is at his Dad's for the first half of this week and then he comes to us. Thursday is the day we are going to the show at the NEC (note to self - must speak to my Dad). Saturday is our anniversary - OH and I will have been together 6 years! Then on Sunday is my birthday - 38 this year.
Anyway, better do some work I suppose.
Bye for now!PigginSkint's debt free diary

Thanks - I will have a look at that site!
£40 a month is not bad for the size of the debt. Every year, around about the same time as I get my letter about deferring for another year (which is something OH could have done if he hadn't just tried to run away from the debt - I earn far more than he does and can still defer - but that is another story!) I get another letter telling me how much my payments will be if I decide to start paying it back. My student loans total is smaller than OH's but the payments would be a lot larger (nearly double if I remember rightly) so yes, I was pleasantly surprised that they were only asking for £40 a month.
I'm in a lot more debt than OH is, but I am also very sensible with money - my light bulb moment was 2.5 years ago. I might have a lot of debt but I never miss payments and they are always paid on time. Plus I have a notebook and several spreadsheets to get everything organised - so I know exactly what needs paying and when. OH, on the other hand, has debt but it is not really a lot. But, and it is a big but, I have never met anyone quite so disorganised with money! And talk about head-in-the-sand! Though things do seem to be improving in that respect at least!! There is a little less of the ostrich about him these days! (Trust me, if there was, he would be out that door before he knew what hit him!!!)PigginSkint's debt free diary

Hi All
Another busy busy day today - a long one too! Oh well, tomorrow is my last working day this week - woohoo!
My SM phoned last night to say that my Dad has the flu so won't be going to the NEC. This means that we will have to get the train. That's actually not that bad as I have my season ticket and then we have a family railcard so the tickets for OH and DS shouldn't cost too much. Really looking forward to it but it's a shame my Dad and SM won't be going.
Sooo tired tonight so will be going to bed soon. I have got more to update on but I think i will do that tomorrow when I am a bit more awake!
Night all!PigginSkint's debt free diary
