Well considering its our data they hold and they were set up basically by the banks without any permission or imput from the general public I think they should have to provide a free report once a year on request.
They all have close links to financial bodies and debt collectors and is just one more way for the banks et al to hold the public under the cosh and exploit us.

Totally agree with this it just make me laugh that we as the public who bailed the banks out, then banks pay credit agencies to see OUR date for credit reference agencies to then charge US the public to see OUR own private data.0 -
To be honest I don't know what all the fuss is about, If you manage your finances properly, Pay bills on time, don't try and avoid paying debts that you owe and then have to pay a company to see if it has been recorded against you or not then you should be okay and would not even have to check your credit report.
Missed payments are added to your report after you have received a letter saying your payment has been missed, you do not have to pay £2 for that because you would have received a letter stating that already.
If you know that you have no bad credit history and you cannot get a loan, CC etc then it is highly unlikely that anything bad is going to show up on a report anyway.
If you get refused a loan, CC etc,
have a little think about how you manage your accounts and you will know why you have been refused..... It's not Rocket Science..
When we are in debt and owe companies money there is always some kind of communication be it Email, Snailmail, Phone etc, it is terrible being in debt I know but most people know how bad their debt problems are and what kind of shape their Credit reports are in without the need to look or pay..
Nobody is forcing you to check your Credit Reports that is a choice you make...
Anyway besides that some people just like to see what is on their reports nothing wrong with that either, Point is if people are willing to pay for a credit report then that is their choice..
Can't imagine a company is going to sit and record all of this information so we can get it free of charge..0 -
I think they provide a great service at NO COST to me!
If I apply for credit then the potential lender has a method of getting evidence that I will probably pay back what I borrow.
No Experian (there are other credit agencies available LOL) would mean only your own bank would know enough about you to determine whether you were a good credit risk or not.
Unsecured lending would no doubt be very difficult to come by.
What does the OP and others think of this??0 -
Experian are not the ogre they are pictured as in some posts here. They are a company making what seems to be regarded as Evil Profit by some here. As has been said, all companies exist to make a profit, which enables them to provide employment, a good living for their management and hopefully, a profit for the shareholders. That's the way the system works, whether you agree with it or oppose it. If you require goods or services, you are also required to pay for them.
Some years ago, a problem with a paid-up, cancelled Store Card and a house move, caused a Credit Rating problem for my wife. This was also complicated by the actions of a former occupant of the house we moved to and the whole thing was a nightmare. A free visit to Experian ended this. We did not take up their offer of an account, but the company was so good and efficient that, should we be in a position to require their services again, we would not hesitate.
As we are now well into retirement and our affairs are settled, we are thankful that we do not need them, but I would not hesitate to recommend Experian to anyone. What price is peace of mind, in finacial matters?I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Too many people today want to blame their own financial irresponsibilty on someone else.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I ain't talking about myself as I only check my report once a year I am talking about others, why would I need to check mine I haven't applied for credit for over a year and I have 1 credit card and 1 bank account so really going on any of the credit referencies for myself would be no point.
This thread was solely to encourage others to take up arms and protest through your towns, cities with big banners saying "credit expert we have had enough":rotfl:0 -

Indeed.
Anyone who thinks that any business is their special friend rather than an organisation that sees their relationship as an opportunity for profit is a naive fool.As we are now well into retirement and our affairs are settled, we are thankful that we do not need them, but I would not hesitate to recommend Experian to anyone. I'd recommend them, or other similar services, with a caveat. Not all of their services are worthwhile but some of them are. Just like some of the deals on the shelves of Tesco (or Comet, or John Lewis or [whatever]) are good and some of them are bad.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
