MSE News: Tesco to rebrand Value range

The packaging looks fancier - but will it now taste as good as Sainsburys basics range?

So no longer as easy to spot on the shelves as the blue and white stripes? I for one don't believe the prices will stay the same, they may initially but then they'll go up, someone has to pay for the big costs of rebranding and you can bet your last penny that it won't be Tesco!Dum Spiro Spero0 -
As much as I would love to believe that the value prices won't go up, I'm afraid I don't!
In fact, I suspect we may have already paid for their rebranding exercise with the sudden massive price rises on certain items.GC2012: Nov £130.52/£125

Yes, Value prices have risen too.......
But like all the brands - they go up in order to compensate for the reductions on other products.
They 'rob' peter to pay paul........
There are NO real bargains......... something else is ALWAYS increased at the same time as something is reduced! The Daleks Reign Supreme, All Hail The Daleks!0 -
This is the discussion thread for the following MSE News Story:
"Tesco says prices will stay the same and claims the new selection will "taste better, look better and is healthier""
Just to say the Tesco cheapest brand tomato soup used to taste really good. I stopped buying it because the soup started to taste only of sugar and not tomato. Then the cheapo baked beans...started to taste only of sugar which I located to mostly in the sauce (so I had to wash it all off and then heat the beans with tomato puree added). Wholemeal economy brand bread used to be the food I gave my geese for a change but now it has become so soggy they don't even want it (I don't eat bread but it is like barely cooked dough when you break it up). The Tesco brand spaghetti is the same so I don't buy that any more and as for the hommous it has lost its taste of hommous and gone unappetisingly runny. I prefer to shop at Lidl or Netto where the food tastes of what it says on the packaging. Well done Tesco for noticing there needs to be a change for the better.0 -
Or beat Waitrose Essentials the ONLY Supermarket Basics Range I am prepared to eat(unless I am wrong and dismissing that which should not be dismissed and missing out as a result!).#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

I reckon this new range has been 'inspired' by waitrose essentials personally.0 -

Waitrose essential is not a 'proper' value range. A while back they simply took their existing products and rebranded them as 'essentials'.
I too shop at waitrose, and like to feel I'm buying a good quality 'value' range. But the truth is, it's a marketing ploy, there is no essentials range, it's just everyday stuff at everyday prices.
PS their jam is incredible value for money, even on offer 3 for 2 right now! :j0 -
Dear CompBunny, I miss my house bunny too, her name was Big Bun. I lost her some months ago but she had a good life and was a "rescue" before she came to me. I took my curtains to the cleaners today. I sadly had to explain why the long ones were sort of nibbled along the bottom - the girl gave me a funny look.0

I bought their value Mince (frozen) two days ago and it was disgusting. I asked for a refund under their satisfaction guarantee (as indicated on the packaging) and was told I needed to return the product, not just the wrapper.
Tomorrow I will be delivering them two disgusting home made lasagnas, fished out of my dustbin.0 -
Only one month away from the next set of quarterly vouchers? Stupidly timed and pointless, the clue was in the name "Value", no frills, simple, it didn't need tarting up.
Waitrose are probably the best, but Sainsbury's basics have been miles ahead of Tesco for the last 18 months or so for the value range when it comes to food. The non-food stuff like rubbish bags are much of a muchness and for me, more about quantity than price.0
