Well done Jemma, you seem to have your mojo back and great to hear that you are getting out and about.

Fantastic news about the mortgage. This seems to certainly have done the trick and given you the motivation you needed. Just think in 12 months you could have your won place. You could have a painting party for your MSE friends.:rotfl:

    x

I'm actually hoping that I win that £121m on the Euromillions tonight then I'll be out of this house faster than a speeding bullet :rotfl:

I've just stupidly been looking at cashback credit cards on here and honestly, I am such a pleb! My work gives me discounts from 5% for Asda/Sainsburys to 8%/10% for high st retailers and I've been looking to get a cashback card where the most I could earn is 5% for 3 months then 0.5%/1%... *smacks head* :rotfl:

  • It's so nice to see you being positive Jemma :) Glad you are getting out and about with friends! I've joined ladies circle (a networking group) and most of my social life now revolves around things with them! That pencil skirt sounds gorgeous.... I might have to go look in there for something to wear to a couple of christmas do's :D

It's just a social club for women and every couple of weeks there is a 'meeting'... this can be karaoke, a chocoholics party, last night we had a 'gong' session where some guy helped us relax by playing his percussion instruments. Some random things but enjoyable. We also helped the Round Table (guys version) with their charity fireworks night last weekend (Mr S is their chairman this year).

I'm rubbish at explaining so I've taken this from the website:

Ladies Circle is a modern, vibrant club for women just like you!

With thousands of members aged 18 to 45 across Great Britain and Ireland, we want to offer the best opportunity for young women to connect with each other, have a great time, and give something back.

Circlers first join us because they want to make new friends, have fun, do things they’ve never done before, and put something back into the community at the same time.

They stay because what they find is a ready-made group of friends, from all walks of life, who allow them to just be themselves.

Whether you’re new to your area, or are just looking to broaden your social life, your local Ladies Circle group is a perfect way of getting more out of life.

  • Hi all
How are yez doing? Well I am sitting here watching 'Cloudy with a chance of meatballs' on the TV with the children. I am doing very little these days, except growing this baby! It has been a very tricky few weeks as I have no income coming in at all, while different depts. at work argue about whether or not I should be back by work or getting sick pay. I am just so thankful that - with your help - I managed to knock my debts on the head...or else I would be even more worried about it all. An Emergency Fund would have been nice, but right now I am awash with happy hormones (battling it out with indigestion and aching back!) and am just hoping for the best. I have not bought anything for this baby yet - I am a big knitter, but am still trying to finish up my Christmas projects for Family first! Now if only I could get some income from work, that would be the icing on the cake. I never had problems getting from sick pay from my old job in England <sigh>
Kerfuffle, you seems to be going from strength to strength with the debt-busting!
Jemma, the end of the year seems to be really turning around for you...loving your plans to buy your own house. I am hoping to finally do some saving next year...I'll look out for you on Savings and Investments.
Psycho, the Circle sounds lovely. What a range of interesting nights out you have-next year I really want to get a social life...time to get my pre-body back. If I ever get any money, I may even join WW (no Slimming World here in Canada). How did you lose all your weight Ruthy?
Well I had better sign off now. It is chilly here, but the weather is not as dire as you guys seem to be having. Take care and keep stomping on those debts! x

    Hi everybody,

    Canucksfan
    - Thank you for the compliment, it doesn't feel like I'm making much headway but at the moment I'm just waiting for the santander to finish and then I can re-jig my calculations and hopefully pay more to Bank of Mum and Dad. I'm currently also following the 1% thread which basically means that I repay debt in percentages, it's very motivating as I only have to think of the next 1%.

I'm pleased to hear that you're keeping yourself safe and looking after yourself and the baby.

Jemma - it's great to hear that you've got your mojo back, and that you've got a new goal in your sights

Psychopathbabble - the Ladies Circle sounds great fun, I could do with something similar here.

Well my hours at work have been reduced as we're in our in-between period and things have slowed down, so my penny pinching mojo is back and I'm hoping to spend very little for this month, or until the 19th Nov at the least as this is the cut off date for credit card transactions, anything bought after the 19th won't need to be paid for until after Christmas when I should be back onto full time hours ;)

My works Christmas party is this month, so I'll ransack my wardrobe to see what I've got that's suitable and all food and drink is provided so it should be a no cost evening for me :T

There's been lots of good payments being made this month and it's great to see so many members getting near the 100% target. Well done everybody for keeping at this, the finishing line is in sight :T

    :j

Well, that's me done payment wise for 2 weeks until payday. I am working away next week so can't post...happy debt busting all and see you when I get back :)

I just felt a bit nostalgic so read through the first instalment of this thread (well, not all of it!) and saw that it started almost a year ago! We have all done so well. My first post was pledging to pay off £10k so we have done 150% of my first estimate, hopefully 200% by Xmas!

Big :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T for all of you!

  • Great news on the mortgage Jemma. A little word of advice have at least an extra £5000 for solicitors fees, mortgage fee, survey etc and remember houses over £125k have stamp duty too.

We spent a fortune on fees but I didn't want to add anything to the mortgage and pay interest on it for no reason.

We're off to WetnWild today :D got a half price voucher for up to 4
    HSBC CC - £3000 / £3000
    Halifax CC - £1032.77 / £1032.77
Mortgage currently at [STRIKE]£82,299.71[/STRIKE] £76,017.62 would love to overpay

    Gooooooooooooooooood Morning my lovelies

Just been playing around with my spreadsheets and decided to start one showing exactly what we are spending on DH's M&S card (for the points ;)) and seems we have managed to rack up £600   I do have the money but still it was a bit of a shock and made me realise how much I need to keep my finger on everything or we will so easily slip back into debt.

Off to the bank today to remove £100 toward said CC bill to go with the £350 I have in a special envelope marked 'DH CC' and will remove another £100 when my next lot of money goes in just to make sure I dont use that dreaded OD (determined this month to stay in the black!)

I know that still leaves me £50 short but I do have that hidden away in a small emergency money pot which I will use to clear it (no interest from me mr CC!).

Our problem was that the finish line kind of went to our heads a bit, so we bought my Big Shot on it, DH bought 2 monitors (and gave me the money in cash), then we bought a new christmas tree (actually i'll pop the old one up on FB, see if I can get £20 toward the CC ;)) and some tshirts from J0hn Lewis for DD as we were so fed up of Tesc0 ones that dont cover her belly! and before you know it £600 is on the plastic :( So My pledge - No more prezzies on the plastic, only food shopping and remove money from bank at same time so always know I have the money to pay it off :D
