    Gooooooooooooooooood Morning my lovelies

Just been playing around with my spreadsheets and decided to start one showing exactly what we are spending on DH's M&S card (for the points ;)) and seems we have managed to rack up £600   I do have the money but still it was a bit of a shock and made me realise how much I need to keep my finger on everything or we will so easily slip back into debt.

Off to the bank today to remove £100 toward said CC bill to go with the £350 I have in a special envelope marked 'DH CC' and will remove another £100 when my next lot of money goes in just to make sure I dont use that dreaded OD (determined this month to stay in the black!)

I know that still leaves me £50 short but I do have that hidden away in a small emergency money pot which I will use to clear it (no interest from me mr CC!).

Our problem was that the finish line kind of went to our heads a bit, so we bought my Big Shot on it, DH bought 2 monitors (and gave me the money in cash), then we bought a new christmas tree (actually i'll pop the old one up on FB, see if I can get £20 toward the CC ;)) and some tshirts from J0hn Lewis for DD as we were so fed up of Tesc0 ones that dont cover her belly! and before you know it £600 is on the plastic :( So My pledge - No more prezzies on the plastic, only food shopping and remove money from bank at same time so always know I have the money to pay it off :D

I know exactly what you mean Jakes-Mum, we have bought DH a suit, shoes, shirt, belt etc (he has a really important money making thing coming up and needs to look smart- all his other stuff looks very tatty but it is an investment I suppose) which came to about £250, I got a dress, some small bits for DS2 (boys all now sorted for clothes until spring and xmas pressies :T) and we have about £500 on one card and £200 on another!!
    DMP started Oct '17: £79,974 :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Hi everybody. Hope you're all well? Five week month for me :( but will finally be starting the new mega bucks job next week so should see some benefit at the end of the month :)

On a different topic have a date tonight (first in a year and a half :eek::eek:) so kind of crapping myself a bit.

It's someone who knows my cousin and he is cooking for me so I won't have to pay for anything. We met on a popular free dating site but he knows my family so I kinda feel ok going to his house. Won't be drinking tho as driving so will be able to keep control!

    Wish me luck!
    In debt no more!

I've just stupidly been looking at cashback credit cards on here and honestly, I am such a pleb! My work gives me discounts from 5% for Asda/Sainsburys to 8%/10% for high st retailers and I've been looking to get a cashback card where the most I could earn is 5% for 3 months then 0.5%/1%... *smacks head* :rotfl:

Why don't you do both? I have a shopping card for Asda and M&S (my work do discounts for both, so a little bit of M&S cheers me up and I try and save some each month for xmas), but I have also had an Amex since August that I got a £20 from Quidco for (which pays for the annual fee for the 1st year), and I have already racked up £125 cashback due to the 5% for 3 months joining bonus. We spend £90 a week in petrol/diesel so it easily pays for itself.

  • Hi. A wanderer returns!
Think I am no.257 and unfortunately my plan to pay off debts by this Christmas was cruelly and savagely destroyed when my Zaffi Zafira died (several times!) in the summer holidays. Hence I needed a more reliable car to get me and 3 children around in. So after much research & more research, I downsized the car and went for a lovely Kia Cee'd. I love it - it is smaller, much more economical on fuel, insurance and road tax. BUT, had to borrow 6K on credit card. I had paid 3/4 of debt off, but with new 6k added to it, credit card debt rose to £8,442.47 in Aug this year:eek:. Also fridge/freezer caput - so another £415 to pay out!

There's no way I can pay that off by Xmas, but I am throwing everything I have at it. Started ebaying, cut back massively on grocery shopping, making everything from scratch, heating off accept first thing morn/pre bed times.

    So now it's: £7970.50/8442.47.

    Eugh....

  • Things always seem to happen to mess up our DF plans don't they? Sympathies newlyfrugalmumof3. We discovered a leaky radiator last night that has dumped goodness knows how much water under out dining room laminate, for who knows how long. We are insured, but not to fix the rad. And I have no idea if they'll pay out on the laminate. And obviously our premiums will go up too.

Oh you poor thing. Life can be so annoying sometimes - and EXPENSIVE. I guess it depends how much your excess on your insurance policy is as to whether it may be worth paying for the fix yourselves. I flooded our bathroom a couple months ago - ran the bath and completely forgot about it. Floor was 2 inches covered in water. It ran through to downstairs cloakroom and part of the ceiling needs replacing, BUT our insurance co (Haliquax) wanted £550 excess:eek:. So we will do it ourselves (when we can). Good luck with sorting it.
