    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hugs to Brandnewstart x
Jakes-Mum, it may be a good idea to pop down to A&E for a suture/steri-strip and/or a Tetanus booster if yr poor finger is still oozing!
    Choclover-longing to get an update!
Time for my 12 week scan tomorrow - I hv had losses before now, so very nervous... The fact that my dr keeps muttering birth abnormalities (due to my age and cos I could do with losing a few pounds) probably doesn't help matters. Am working a night shift tonight and will go straight in for the scan after; DH thinks I am going to snore my way through the scan-charming!

  • Hey does anyone know anything about bikes? Have decided after getting cheesed off with running behind my two kids on their bikes that perhaps I should get one! I don't want to get a cheap nasty thing but being a DFW I don't want the expense or responsibility of an expensive bike.
There is a big sale in halfords at he moment and I can't decide whether to get a victoria Pendleton bike with £100 off at £199, or the see if I can join a 'cycle to work' tax scheme at work and get a boardman mountain bike for £500? Most people I speak to who are heavily in to cycling are really snobby about bikes and think you have to spend a fortune. I only want to go on a few trips with the kids not the tour de france. Any advise would be greatfully received. I know you frugal lot will know what to do!

I don't see why a £200 (or maybe less!) bike wouldn't be enough for your needs...

    Hi everyone,

It's been a while! I've still been reading your posts on my phone but my life has been crazy and I haven't had a chance to get on the computer to post myself. I've managed to curb my spendy ways recently...apart from food spending, but I think that my health is important so it's worth it and I've managed to balance it out from other budgets.

I've been going through a lot recently, struggling with a flatmate who's not being the nicest to me. The good news is that there is now light at the end of the tunnel and I'm moving out in 3 weeks :j I was worried this would affect my DFD but I've managed to find somewhere cheaper where I'm going to be sharing with another lady who's hardly ever home - sounds perfect to me at the moment :D

I thought I should get in on the act on last week's challenge so here are my ten things:
    1. Buy clothes for work (since losing weight I don't have much to wear!)
    2. Go out with friends without worrying about the cost
    3. Buy all the kitchen gadgets I've been drooling over
    4. Buy high-quality ingredients without feeling guilty
    5. Increase my charity donations
    6. Stop being obsessed by money!
    7. Keep up my newly acquired budgeting skills :)
    8. Save for a car
    9. Save for a deposit for a house
    10. Save to move overseas

I'm sure there are many more too!

Thanks to everyone that posts, keeping me on the straight and narrow! :T

  • I don't see why a £200 (or maybe less!) bike wouldn't be enough for your needs...

That's what I was thinking! Before my LBM I bought my husband a specialized mountain bike for his 40th and although it is lovely he says that he wished I'd bought him something cheaper as he is always worried about it getting stolen or damaged.
The problem is that if you speak to anyone that is seriously in to cycling they all think that the average bike from halfords or Argos etc. is cheap, nasty rubbish, and you should remortgage your house to get a contraption with fancy whistles and bells (half of which you probably won't use!). It all gets rather confusing!
My problem is that I'm so careful with spending money these days that I research and procrastinate so much that I find it impossible to make a decision. I hate the though of being ripped off!

I just want this debt GONE!!!!

    I know the feeling... :money:

Can I just say I HATE the Student Loans Company??

    Thank you.

Why can't people just be nice?

    Sorry for the rant!

    ***RANT OVER***

No need to apologise they are RIDICULOUS! They once sent me a letter when I was STILL studying asking me to update them with my situation as they didn't have me registerded in employment and they wanted me to tell them when i'd start paying my loan back....yeah, I was still receiving loan payments from them and two days later my statement of payments TO me for the year came...do they not have one system with peoples details on?? How did they not realise I was still studying?? I mean, come ON, who are the idiots running the show??!! :rotfl:
I just hope it doesn't scupper the Great North :(

Tirlittan - I have the Garmin 110 which is the most basic one, but it's still a decent piece of kit, and does everything I need really.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooh Pedro are you doing the Great North Run? Also what is a Garmin, I've never heard of one...
    Don't turn a slip up into a give up:D

Here's up to page 117, Harry potter's coming to an end and I need some sleep...!

Mrs Addicted to Spending – I love that you’ve found yoga so helpful to your life, I’ve often thought about going again (the only time I went to a class the instructor laughed at me for being so inflexible which I thought was mean as I’d hurt my back...!)

Shrewbie – I’m so sorry to hear that you and your OH are going through a real tough time. Have you managed to work through anything? Sending you the biggest Jemma hugs possible xxx

Novagirl – great news about the tax credits payment you got and I hope they haven’t made a mistake! You’ve only got £1k to go then you’re debt free!!!!!!!!

Jakes-mum – I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when you were trying to get that trampoline in the loft!!!

Ashleighsalem – so how’s it going with sw@gbucks??? Almost a 90%, come on, don’t let the others pip you to the post!

Recurrent-ostrich – how you doing hun, you sounded so fed up in your post...? Is there anyway you could do last minute foreign holidays for a week? My dad just told me about a girl he works with who has just booked a last minute deal for 3 adults to Cyprus which cost £600 all in for the week. At least it would be a bit of a compromise?

KissyKissyKaren41 – nice to hear from you hun, I can’t believe you guys are already thinking about Xmas pressies!!!!

His missus – How’s the budgeting this week going? Your OH definitely hasn’t had his LBM yet has he?! Don’t worry about ranting, I’ve done it soooooo many times x

Suzitiger – hey well done on the paperwork filing, I’m completely rubbish at that!

Lemonpopsicle – blimey, you are making some great payments!

Canucksfan – good luck with the scan! I’m sure you and the babba will be fine and the Dr is just being a ****!!! Oh and a big WOW on your amount paid off hun!!! There are a few of you on very high percentages now so it will be interesting to see who crosses the finish line first...!

Superheavy – I think your bucketlist is perfect the way it is. Who says we have to grow up and lose sight of our dreams. If these are the things that are important to you then go for them! What the rest of society do is up them, what is important is what YOU want. X

Kerri – I think we can all agree that your challenge is a winner this week! It’s got a lot of people thinking and more importantly, it’s brought people hope that there is light at the end of a long tunnel. Keep going everyone and you can achieve whatever you want!!! Yay for your shopper bag sale Kerri! How is Canada???

Loubie_lou – I’m in exactly the same boat as in that I’ve been in debt all of my adult life. To finally be debt free will be a surreal but incredible feeling. I’m hoping that I’ll actually feel like a grown up! How long till your Florida holiday hun?

Camuk81 – at least your sister in law has now been diagnosed so that she can get the right help such as medication and/or therapy. My best friend is bipolar and it can be sometimes distressing to see her during one of her bad cycles. You seem like you’ve got a huge amount on your plate (figuratively speaking!) at the moment, I hope you’re ok coping with it all x

Bonglecat – it will be so sweet when you make that final payment on your personal loan!

Mrsyallop – how was your day off? What course are you doing hun?

InsertWittyName – congrats on hitting your milestone, are you selling body parts to have paid of so much in one month???????????

Glenda – fab to hear from you and you’re doing so well! Congrats on your new job, how’s it going?

Trying Hard – wow, you’ve been to awesome places...

Psychopathbabble – great news about work paying the travel expenses for the premiere! When is it?

    1stTimer – hey you’re nearly 30% through!!!

Mrso2b – Well done on paying off you egg card! Can you transfer the Halifax and BCard to another 0% so you won’t have to pay all that interest?
