Shamefully, I didn't even know how much my direct debits totalled before my LBM, now I have a weekly and fortnightly budget written out in my diary.trying_hard wrote: »Well an update from me. I left my job:eek: as I couldn't stand it there any more and feel sooo much better, but very very broke!!

Thanks doodz, I guess I just get confused as to what constitutes paying off ym O/D. I will look at it as a monthly thing I think, after all inevitably I am going to have to spend some money sometimes. Does that sound sensible?
In other news, went for a jog today and already feeling a bit better....Debt paid off: £19,999 Debt remaining: NONE!!:money::eek::):j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
Not that I'm getting completely obsessed with making payments
but as we ddn't buy a paper today and the washing's on the line rather than in the tumble drier, I've paid £2 to the card!
I really hope to make these little payments a habit so that they start going into a savings account once the debt is clear.Make £2020 in 2020 £178.81/£2020

Hello! Well done to everyone paying off stuff this week!
Just wanted to share my debt-busting tip for the day with you all.
It helps if you have a greedy OH with eyes bigger that his/her belly. Mine ordered a £9 bodybuilder-gut-buster- mammoth brekkie at the cafe this morning which came with 2 slices of bread and butter.
I ordered a cappuchino for £1.90 and made a sandwich from the bread and butter that he inevitably couldn't eat and half of the ocean of baked beans swimming around on the plate.
Reeeeally stingy thing to do but was strangely proud of myself as normally we would have wasted all that foodStudent loan £5655

Evening all, sorry I've not been posting very much I've been having a right old time of it emotionally. Finally at hump day though, there's now less time before OH returns from Canada than time he has been there woohoooo.
Anyway, after battling it out emotionally and trying to find some form of equilibrium whereby we both give a little, OH and I have decided I should move to Bristol at the end of the year when my contract is due for renewal on this place. It's a short train journey to Cardiff which means OH can come and visit in the evening if he wants to. There's lots of WIs in the area so I can go and meet likeminded people, also it's very arty farty so I can meet likeminded crafty people and hopefully get a craft stall somewhere. When OH finishes uni he can move in with me, hopefully somewhere central, and there's enough jobs there for him to find something
No debt-busting today, my expenses have gone missing!!! £190 lost in cyberspace grrr. Quite annoyed as I put all that money onto the CC to pay it off and as I cut up the card I don't have it as emergencySure it'll all get sorted out though.
Congrats to those making payments, well done Shrewbie for thrifty breakfast idea, I like it lots

Hope no one minds me joining .. could do with people to talk to about paying debts off
I currently have a £1850 overdraft with Nationwide, a £1700 student overdraft with COOP Bank, and £4500 owed to my Dad who kindly leant me money for a car. Just writing that out makes me shudder, and ashamed as I can't say the o/d money has gone on anything useful.
So far this year I have lowered my NW overdraft from over 2k, paid off my Next account, and paid £500 off my car but I am a student nurse, I get £400 a month bursary and am currently trying to find a job that can fit around the course.
I won't earn enough before Christmas to pay them all off, unless I can get some bank work but at least aiming to have the Nationwide overdraft gone totally as I pay interest on that unlike the CO OP one, and then a good amount off the car.
Reading this thread is really motivating, so thanks!0 -
Welcome miss emmajane, we're a friendly bunch so feel free to talk away and make yourself at home - we don't judge at all.
My debt won't be paid off by xmas either, the total currently stands at £17,200, but I've found this thread to be very supportive and motivational. I've declared (if that's the right word) to pay off £5210 by xmas this year and hopefully I should be debt free in the first half of 2014.£2013 in 2013 £866.71/£2013
