I love decluttering but I just wish I had more time to do it! Every time I do the kids rooms I end up with halve a bin liner for rubbish and half a bin liner for the charity shop, and there room always looks so much better!
Having a fair on at school is a good incentive I always find to have a clear out as you feel guilty if you don't send the kids around with something to donate. I also find that the kids are more willing to part with something if you offer to sell it on ebay and give the money to them. They will do anything or money lol. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Morning all!
I have to work today but I thought I would update on last weeks very slow progress!
Well, I shampooed the carpets and im suprised at how much it made the room feel fresher and cleaner so that was worth doing! Ive got to do the bedroom today. I added a few more things to the loft and am getting rid of the breadmaker today, and I think im selling the spare fishtank too.
The bedroom is still looking a bit messy, but have a load of stuff to go in the recycling bins today so that should help. The wardrobes and cupboards are looking cleaner, but I added a few new purchases as it turned out that I didnt have much in the way of clothes!
Plans after work are to clean the fishtank, do some more flinging and recycling and then shampoo the bedroom carpet. Once that is done I will go around again and find misc items that dont seem to have a home and get rid of them. Im aiming to get to a point that I can look round a room and there isnt loads of stuff on view, so ill be creating homes for things that as yet dont have one. Then it will be time for a final vaccuum and dust and then its on to phase three.
Phase three consists of spending some time scanning and throwing away of paperwork and photos from the loft. I myself have an entire crate and I dont want to keep anything but a shoe box of essentials in the loft. Then its on to reorganising the filing on the hard drive and getting that in order. As soon as that is done ill be finished and the only thing I will have left to do is car boot the spoils and bank the money! Wahey!
This seems to be having a positive effect on the rest of my life too as I had a card from my bosses yesterday saying that the work i do is really appreciated and that im doing really well (which means ill be getting a good payrise hopefully!) and 2 lovely customers have brought me gifts this week!

That's excellent!!! 16 out of 19 items is really good going, well done. :T
Wish I could get my act together and do some more listing.
BTW, I've managed to sell the stand for my little 'uns Moses Basket, not yet got round to the basket itself, hopefully I'll get over my sentiment for it and list that tomorrow.0 -

The Good Enough thread is in the Arms discussion list as we were moved from here by the moderators. I'll try and find some sort of link.

I took everything out of hubbys cupboard and removed the really bad stuff.. then I stood over him and made him go through and fling out ALL the stuff thatdidn't fit.. and THEN.. he went through and chucked out all the stuff he didn't like and didn't ever want to wear.. Then.. I had to buy a whole new wardrobe for him as he had nothing left!!! ROFL!!! Worked though.. he looks much tidier now!
I'd have been upset if that was me. Ive hung onto lots of clothes from years ago because of 'memories'.
At the start of the year when I told my wife we were having a collosal clearup she started with my clothes! I got the message and said farewell.Gordon Brown ate my hamster0 -
Hey everyone! I got a bit sidetracked so I haven't posted for two days!
Photo sort out update
I have done the crate of older family photos. I got it down from a crate, to a small stack about 8cm high that can be easily held in one hand. It took several goes to get it that small, but I'm happy with that! There are three more crates waiting to be done which have been sorted into 80s, 90s and 00s so I will do the 80s next (today hopefully)!
CDs
I sorted through my CDs again and listed another 65 on ebay Thursday night. I put these on a 3-day listing so that they end on the same day as the rest of my stuff. I know 3 days isn't long, but it's long enough for any collectors/fans to spot anything rare that I might not be aware of! Whatever hasn't sold on ebay will then go to the car boot sale. Number of CDs left in my collection at home? 18... (this is down from 200+) and they will soon go, so will the CD player!
Ebaying
Current bidding total £205! This includes the extra stuff I've put on during the week. So delighted because my expected target was £100 at the most this time. Last time I got £239 and was thrilled, can't believe I may even beat that!
Other stuff
'Spare' hoover is hopefully going to someone else on Freecycle today, after the previous no-show. I've also emptied a box file of communications, newsletters etc from my son's school, almost all of which didn't need to be kept. Done a few other very minor things like having a 'key' sort out. Any unidentified little keys I couldn't find a corresponding lock to, have been put into a ziplock plastic bag with a note to bin them on 1/1/09 if the locks don't turn up by then!!!
So that's my update, now I'll catch up with what's been going on here and I'll post again in a minute.0 -

Missyg - I admire your tenacity. You don't seem to stop for anything. I couldn't help thinking about a map pointing to hidden treasure buried in your garden when you said about keys with no corresponding locks!Gordon Brown ate my hamster0 -

At the start of the year when I told my wife we were having a collosal clearup she started with my clothes! I got the message and said farewell.
The ones I flung were the ancient skanky work clothes.. You know the tshirts covered in paint and the jeans with ripped knees that wouldn't fit even if you wanted to do some work?.. I made him go through the rest and stood over him to 'persuade' him he didn't need them. He even decided to seel the jacket he got married in because it wouldnt fit him, and even if it did he wouldn't ever wear it.
Memories are in your heart and head.. not in the clothes pockets!!
I've kept the sleepsuits the babies were brought home from hospital in and a favourite outfit and the christening gown all 8 wore.. and everything else is gone! I kept those more for them than for me.. and I included photographs of them wearing the outfits.
Melvis.. well done those are impressive sales!!
I should check mine actually!
Taffy .. is is a dividing wall halfway down the landing!!! there was a 'doorway' in it which had a wardrobe door on it.. 100 years ago it would have led to the maids quarters.. now it leads to the boys quarters! lol
half a binbag deposited at the charity shop this morning on the way to take DD! to have her eyebrows waxed.... FLING..
I'm sorting the girls room today..there HAS to be a better way to lay it out.. and I need to get rid of at least half the stuff in there so it will fit in my room when we shift everyone round.. plus the clothes all need sorting because Tiddles has nothing to wear!!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
