  • Freecycle is wonderful!
Have just responded to a freecycler who was looking for a treadle sewing machine.
After 20 years  have finally accepted that I will not renovate it and it had just become a hall blocking hotspot!

Also now have one bag for bin and two bags for charity shop.
(maybe the treadle was blocking more than the hallway)

I've just got rid of a couple of books and some magazines on freecycle and have people wanting all the other items I posted so that should be some more stuff gone
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

  • My main problem is that I'm convinced I'd be able to sell my junk on Ebay, so I've boxes and boxes of stuff which I never get round to listing!!!!!

I only list a few things at a time on Ebay, as my kids take up so much of my time.

I'm drowning under all this clutter, I must just get rid of it all.

I need a good kick up the rear!!!!!!

Can I join you in the wardrobe declutter? I so need to get rid of stuff and has any one any hints on how to get their OH to also declutter?

Fab - done 20 mins solid, then got distracted again, made a cuppa and came back on MSE! Pathetic. But that's helped, viv. It really has. Thank you.
I will head back to my wardrobe now. :j
No, no tips for motivating OH :rotfl:. But I did clear the top of his chest of drawers this morning as was so fed up of the dust and mess. It's waiting on the bed for him to sort thru when he comes home! He'd better not put it back on the CoD!
    Off I go...

Hello to all newbie de-clutterers . Well done for facing up to your 'challenge' but remember 'baby steps' or it's easy to overface yourself. Believe me I know !

Have managed to get 4 blouses, pair of trousers and loads of t- shirts to get rid of........but I know that is only the start of it....must keep going. Will put kettle on and then put some books, 2 airbeds and some letter trays in carriers ready for collection by freecyclers later today. Then I suppose its back to the wardrobes

Thanks, Ellidee - I think that's my main problem. I want it all done NOW.

But the 'wardrobe challenge' is something small I can hook onto, and I've achieved lots in the past couple of hours. Thanks for your update, Viv. Sounds as if you have done well. I've sorted out 4 dresses, 2 tops and 1 skirt which can go. I've also now pulled out all the spare coathangers and popped them in a bag, so I know where they are - can never find a spare. So I feel good. Got to go on the school run, then will see if I can motivate them to help with their wardrobes! Wish me luck!

    Thanks so much.

Iceandream, I am so like you! I made a list of all the areas I wanted to clear out on Monday as I've been on holiday all week. So far all I've done is sort out my baskets of make-up and creams, and sort out one small cupboard. I've spent more time on here reading about de-cluttering than actually doing it!!
I have a OH that is a hoarder and sometimes feel I'm running round in circles after him, the lamp table at the side of my couch where he sits has a huge pile of paperwork and cables (who knows what they are for) waiting for him to sort out, he says he'll do it, but I just seem to be adding and adding to it.
Once I do all the tidying up in the morning I really can't be bothered doing anything else! Everywhere looks tidy but behind the scenes, every cupboard and drawer is heaving full of junk

What I want to know in this house is how come only 2 people need so much stuff.......I'm sure if I could be disciplined enough I could get rid of at least half of it and we wouldn't miss anything

I took everything out of hubbys cupboard and removed the really bad stuff.. then I stood over him and made him go through and fling out ALL the stuff thatdidn't fit.. and THEN.. he went through and chucked out all the stuff he didn't like and didn't ever want to wear.. Then.. I had to buy a whole new wardrobe for him as he had nothing left!!! ROFL!!! Worked though.. he looks much tidier now!
