halia.. you need that many bowls so you can have cereal for breakfast go out for the day and still have dessert! Chipped crockery is one of the main places germies are harboured.. it is much more hygienic to get rid of them. The pores in the material holds dirt which gets wet in the wash and mould spores, fungus and bacteria runs wild.. if it is chipped or cracked throw it in the bin!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

halia- that's what I have been doing as I de-clutter. I used to lurk a lot on orgnaised home forum (I really miss it too:( , so if you've found any other good sites I'd be interested in a link), and picked the idea up from there. In addition I do things to make the home more organised as I de-clutter. For example I have recently had a new coat stand, and it is at a lower height so kids can pu their own coats away instead of handing them to me or throwing them on the floor.:rolleyes:0

ta for the info about germs - I'll chuck the chipped stuff then.
As for the other - we don't eat cereal or dessert in this house! and to be honest even if we did I'd rather set an expectation that you wash up your breakfast bowl BEFORE going out the door rather than leaving food smeared plates all day. (not that this happens at the moment but with fewer plates and bowls it will have too)
Thats the principal I'm working too, I mean I could keep 7 work tops so I could get them mucky and not have to wash them as frequently. But they will still need washing, just as having 12 bowls doesn't reduce your washing up, you just wash 2 different bowls instead of the same bowl twice.
So its up to you, 12 bowls all mucky on the worktop or 4 bowls that you wash after each use.
After counting my glassware I realised that one thing about keeping loads more than we need is that it can't just sit there ready for use on one off occasions anyway, if you don't use crockery or a glass for over 3 months it kinda needs a wash before you hand it to a guest anyway!
Anyway today:
OUT
bag of over 15 books to recycling bank
Old carpet passed onto someone for use as weedkiller
bag of old clothes to clothes bank
load of carpet grippers used for BBQ last night(also saving on cooking gas)
Some old toys etc of DS (well waiting for pick up from freecycle but they should be out by tommorrow)
IN
just about to collect bike with new backrack so I guess new rack counts as IN?DEBT: £500 credit card £800 Bank overdraft
£14 Weekly food budget0 -
Whoops-
Out - Desk (freecycle)
Ebay - 7/25 items selling
In - Loads of garden plants and a bag of garden books (freecycle)
I don't count the garden in my declutter scheme - its never going to happen!!0 -
obviously far more exciting things than decluttering going on everywhere
Bought a box of promotional stuff from work back in today, had it for an event, then took it out the car into the house and forgot to put it back for ages - gone now.
I also took a pair of glasses to the optitions on Saturday to be recycled.
Tonight I'm going through all my make up and pull out what I don't use, mascara's I need to get rid of etc etc.
Then I'm away for a few days but when I get abck I'm going to set myself a small challenge like this every day for the rest of August to try and blitz some of the small things that I can do which coupled together will make a difference - I hope :AInitial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000
Initial Mortgage free date - January 2058
Mortgage as of 1st February 2024 - £159,134.98
Overpayments to date - £79.62
Current Mortgage free date - January 20580 -
Another 12 bags to the dump (still possibly my current fav thing to do)
Garage almost a bakery, 2 more weeks I think. Only problem is I start back to work (after 12 weeks) on Thursday and could really have done with being here for DH move to outside bakery and out of MY kitchen/utility room/study/hall. Want to make sure I get as much OUT and not moved to another location.
Pathetic as it sounds.......I am truly looking forward to getting my house back and not have to make my way around all his carp!LBM Feb 2010 £62,700 Total Debt Jan 11 [STRIKE]£49,403.84[/STRIKE] £47,530.32.

Out : Large cool bag (passed on to my mum)
Pending out : A selection of clothing & footwareCreeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -

I have given up de-cluttering my house it is, it is a pig sty.
There are only two of us living here. Why is that everyone elses house looks tidier better decorated and have better everything then us
I keep threatening to set fire to the back bedroom. It is grandly called my husbands office:rotfl:dump is better word for it.
I now only work 3 days a week so I can keep an eye on my husband (he is disabled)and I am still behind on everything.
I am going to cry now :rotfl:
I might even go and do a bit of tidying. Yeah right in my dreams :rotfl:Pass us the vodak.
Yours
