Not exactly decluttering, as nothing will be going out of the house, but I've told Mr LameWolf that this weekend we need to tidy out the tins and jars cupboards and rearrange them so that I know exactly what we have and how much we have of it.

We started out like this, but it's got a bit disorganised over time, so it's time for a stocktake and use up anything that needs it.

Why not start with a small area, then when you can see a change, it will give you a boost to think about which bit is next......baby steps :)

Maybe think about a skip for the real rubbish, and have a 3-pile system:
    keep (and sort later)
    ebay/charity shop
    bin/skip

We live in the middle of nowhere and the only company willing to supply a skip wanted to charge twice the going rate  But Dh has a van so we are able to get a lot to dump on each visit - currently x3 weekly!!!

Yes you are of course right - baby steps - and I am trying but get so frustrated too

    To REDMADCURLS:

If you've been poorly, take it steady. No sense in knocking yourself out and setting your recovery back.

I'd start with the study - you don't mention that as being a place your husband works a lot, and you can't do a lot with a bathroom that needs a new suite, just now. And as floss2 says, just take baby steps. Do one shelf, or drawer, then stop. When you feel able, do another. It'll soon come together. That's how I always do it, as I have a condition that means I tire extremely quickly.

    Best of luck![/quote]

LMAO the study is his favourite hovel - full of supplies for the bakery AND his techi toys - sitting here I can see 4 computers - 3 screens, a bloody XBox and all its !!!! and 3 printers - trust me if it werent for the techi nonsense the bakery might just be bearable! And unfortunatly I cant even start to throw out the boxes stored upstairs because I have no idea of the value of all the cable etc he has!! Did I mention the 2000 games/dvds and I am not exaggerating!

I can totally sympathise, my circumstances changed and I'm about to start sharing my house with my OH and his kids. My study is so bad no one can get near it for boxes! What will be the kids rooms need the wardrobes cleared out properly and our room needs decluttered. Since you've been unwell, I'd definitely say take it slowly. If you want PM me and we can keep each other motivated as we progress :o

Oh man just have to fit in children AS WELL - you have my sympathy and empathy - back to work in 3 weeks and 6 days but hey who's counting!!

    Hi REDMADCURLS
I really sympathise. I did that for years, tidied and got most of the place looking nice but had 1 room which was always a tip with stuff.
Theres only one answer i'm afraid and thats to let it go.it has to go out the door and elsewhere. I dont do eBay but I do do freecycle. what my policy is is this:
I list stuff and give it a limit of time. this must be shortish or you never get anywhere. So anywhere between 1 and 2 weeks is ok. if it hasnt gone by then it goes to the tip. anything useable by others either goes on Freecycle or to the charity shop. any rubbish just has to go to the tip.
Also I weigh up is it worth it? to me that is. this is about selling stuff. If the expected gain aint worth the trouble so to speak I just give it away [Frecycle or charity shop]. I've recently got rid of some expensive[ to me] items of horsey stuff, which I gave to the RSPCA. ok it had cost me a lot , but I had used it [ or rather my horse had] and itsno longer needed. I guessed the charity wuld get more use out of it than me getting a few pounds for it. what is worth it re selling is individual, to some its worth the trouble for 50p, to others it isnt.
I would rather see stuff gone and out of my way giving me a clear house and I find baggingit and taking it to the charity sop the quickest and most useful way of decluttering.

I do ebay and freecycle a bit - DH then buys more stuff using paypal!! I am a thrower and he is a hoarder!! We had stuff cramed into a shed for a carboot sale - after 3 years he agreed to let me throw it all.
Often he takes rubbish to dump and goes through it and then brings some back!!
But oh the joy from going to the charity shop - I just love it - 3 boxes went on Monday :j

    REDMADCURLS re the kitchen
I'd break it down into very small steps. just try doing something like emptying the bin or wiping a cupboard door or clearing a very small space. eventually it will get sorted so long as DH has somewhere to continue the baking whilst you are clearing stuff.
    Hope this helps

Well I have tried that and thankfully most cupboards are in good order but when he bakes it is everywhere - he is very untidy!
But WHEN he goes to garage at least the cupboards will be clear!!:T

dont dispair RMC my DH used to do this. Hes now -almost- given it up, after keeping stuff and not being able to use it and eventually not being able to actually get into the shed as things fell out when the door was opened. he took 20 bags of rubbish to thetip from the shed the other week and we havent finished de-cluttering it yet. must have a dozen hammers and other tools, if onl we could find them . all he does is goes and buys another when needed. there have been rows....................
