Enough is enough - the great declutter

Hoping to move house this year so finally got round to the great declutter.
Started 4 weeks ago and total so far - drum roll please - just under £1000.
(Auction House, Newspaper ads, and E-bay). I reckon we're about half way through the loft, then there's drawers, cupboards, wardrobes, the garage etc. Will start car boots and antique fairs when the weather picks up.
To the poster who mentioned keeping boxes for toys, I would definitely second that. We've sold a load of toys and a few kitchen collectables - the ones that were in their boxes or original packaging fetched a lot more than the loose items.
Apart from the money, which is fantastic of course, it feels so good to be finally getting rid of all the stuff. I will never hoard like this again.
Keep up the good work everyone.0 -
[QUOTE=onredbull;4638144
While chatting to my friend (- who is trying to help me de-clutter when she can by throwing my junk out for me -) we got talking about all my empty boxes and about taking a photo to put up and remind me of how much space they take up and help me de-clutter.
I thought it would be a good idea  but am waiting until tomorrow as i have got loads more empty boxes behind my bookcase in the cupboard but cant get to them till kids at school tomorrow so was thinking of taking a photo then.

I know exactly what you mean - a result of my decluttering is loads of empty boxes. I have recycled the cardboard ones, but I have about 10 good plastic storage boxes with nothing in them !
Now the trick is not to refill them again :rotfl:You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Morning,
Am pleased to say that DD finally has a clean room and a beautiful purple carpet, I'd forgotten all about!!!! On the whole, things I've already done, are still looking good. However, does anybody else find that certain family members try to undermine all your hard work?
I've even had some success on Ebay this week, so a productive week.
Today, I'm going to clean my computer desk. It is full of stuff for Amazon, Ebay, filing!!!!
Have a good day, whatever you are doing.New Mantra: I must not visit MSE until after I've completed all my chores!!!!!0 -
Hi there fellow de clutterers

Hiya charlies_mum and everyone else,I have
Some Good News,
Some Bad News
and
Some Potential Good News.
The Good News is I had a sort out :T and emptied the bathroom cupboard :T - Its Empty. :T
I moved the bookcase into front room and all the toiletries & stuff into a basket.
Then I got all my empty boxes out and added them to the huge pile in front room - I think I may have enough for a bonfire !!
(- I have 46 empty boxes including shoe boxes, iron, toy till, computer moniter, shredder, lamps, scales, toys, nappys & wipes and more as well as a tissue box (i threw this in trash)
Then i took a photo.
The Bad News is I then took all the empty boxes - except the empty tissue box (which i put in the bin :T as the bin men are coming in the morning-Tuesday) and put them all in the empty cupboard out of the way.
The Potential Good News is after sitting here at my computer and thinking i should be going to bed, I'm trying to think and write what i need to do 2moro - then i had an idea
I went into the completed listing on ebay and typed in "empty boxes" "empty boxes"
I suggest you all get those empty boxes out that you all have in your house hidden away and lets see who can sell one on ebay ? ! ? !
Its not just empty boxes, we can sell our empty boxes and that will make us some money to buy some alcohol  and celebrate:dance:.
Then we can sell the empty bottles  that we will all have to drink  as we start looking in our flats & houses for more empty boxes to sell.
:rotfl: Warning: This may turn into a vicious circle.:rotfl:~~~~~~~~~~~~:kisses3: "In Raising Your Children;" :kisses3:"Spend Half As Much Money n Twice As Much Time."0 -
I have cheated and put a load of stuff into storage but did throw away as I packed my excess.
It is lovely not having so much clutter and will rethink once I get my stuff backAn average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:
:eek::mad: :beer:

Well, I'm still going - as the weather is so cold and wet, the poor allotment has been abandoned and I am concentrating on the decluttering.
Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm finding it really theraputic, and making some money in the process.
Oneredbull, thanks for the advice about the boxes, I really should check everything as I think there is a buyer out there for everything
One bedroom nearly clear and ready for decorating at Easter. Bedroom number 2 started. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
I am hoping to move - one day, but we have a problem. I am a pack rat and my house is FULL of rubbish, and as it is so depressingly full I just don't know where to start. I have worked for hours on rooms, and they just don't seem to clear. My problem is OH would just like to get a skip and chuck EVERYTHING. I think there is money to be made on some of the stuff, so keep putting him off, but as a consquence (sp?) we never get round to tidying.
All your talk of the money to be made from decluttering is very inspiring and I will get started this week in tidying my house.

Well done for deciding to start :T :T :T
Don't be overfaced by what needs doing, just tackle one box at a time and you will be amazed how quickly you get through it.
You need to discipline yourself, chuck anything you think is rubbish, but anything unusual / valuable, check Ebay just to make sure.
Good luckYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0
