I'd ask for £500, and see what they say.

I used to do 30+ miles a day each way to work and back in a 1L mini, I paid £600 for it and it was still going 3 years later. Started off 5 days a week then went to 7 days a week when i started dating a girl who live that way also.

I part ex'd + £1200 it for metro with a massive 1300cc engine .. That went everywhere also, Used to drive it flat out everywhere. Actually had the speedo off the clock with the rev counter also. Germany / Belgium several times.

Lasted years before the gearbox gave up, Probably because i dont ever remember having it serviced. New brakes and tyres every now and then.

Dont remember ever changing the oil or filters etc.

Top tip - Don't ever buy a car from Evans hell shaws
  • Is it possible , someone in the garage made a mistake and wrote down incorrect mileage on your order form which they sent to you.

If it was me . I would have already contacted the dealer for an explaintion , and ask them what are they going to do about it .

You buy a car but the milage increases by 11 % before you pick it up. I bet it was used as a courtesy car while people had their cars serviced.

You could not possibly understand this without driving both types over the same roads.

Thanks for the explanation Strider - and yes, I can understand this.

Been the owner of a various types of car since moving to the far north of this country - family live the opposite end. Travelled extensively on our motorways in a 1.3 Astra and then a Frontera 2.8 and after that a Freelander Td4 and not necessarily noticed a difference in comfort, but I have on the wear and tear mechanically.

Despite taking care of all my cars (regular servicing etc) both the Frontera and Freelander broke down on the journeys, but I never had that problem with the Astra. In fact my old Astra is still going strong (though no longer in my ownership).

Swings and roundabouts, I suppose :-)

I do 50 miles a day in my 1.4 fiesta, and I know, from experience, that these types of cars arent really designed to do high mileages in short spaces of time. ...

The Fiesta is designed & tested to exactly the same durability requirements as the Mondeo. The OEM accumulates about 50,000 miles in 6-8 months during this test.

50 miles per day should be a walk in the park for any Ford Fiesta.

    Ok Ok ,

Sorry for the flippant remark about whether the car was designed to do the mileage. I concede I was wrong.

Please can we stick to topic now?

Once you paid deposit and signed documents the car surely became yours. From that point it should not have been used as the dealers "runaround."

Luckily you have the 2 documents highlighting the change of mileage so it can't be said you did the mileage.

Complain and ask for a deduction based on increased miles.
