Wow it looks really good when you put it like that! Cheers!

    Decision made (I think ;))
I am going to finish paying the 1.5k at some point and then save £100k for retirement. OH retires in 9 years and I could then retire then too (aged 44 lush! He will be 51)
However I really don't like working so I wonder if I could bring that 9 years to something more like 6 or 7?
He would still have to work because he doesn't get his pension until then but I could retire and play with ponies all day?!
If I aim for 6 years then thats about £16.5k per year but I assume at some point I will get some interest on that? I really have no idea about savings so need to start some research.
    6 years and counting..

Can I keep the thread here though please peeps?! I can't see anywhere else to put it and I want to keep motivated by keeping a diary. Basically I'm copying secret saving squirrel!! :rotfl::rotfl:

Hello, I'm copying Squirrel too :j

I paid my mortgage off a few years ago, but I've started a diary to help me plan for my early retirement.

Would be really interested in hearing about how your plans shape up:)

She moved out a couple of weeks ago to go back to Brazil - she is coming back for 8 weeks in the summer though. Not sure if I'll get another one after that only really because OH didn't really like it and I'm happy that he dealt with it for 2 years...!

    Thanks Goldiegirl and KP!
I'll keep going and see how it pans out.

All I know is I can't be too strict about saving because it may mean divorce! OH thought it was all going to end in March this year so will need to figure out how the next bit works!

I could probably save £1k per month if I only spent his month but he might get wise to that!!

Anyway as a starter for 10 I have put £1k into my savings. I know I could use this to pay the final mortage bit but this is 'my money' :)
Its been a cheap month because OH has been away, we have changed all our 1 & 2 pence pieces to pay for food shopping this month and we now have a Lyd!s just opened which is way cheaper than Mr T!

Some money saving ways have defo stuck - still take my lunch to work and still meal plan (thanks Tilly, I reckon you have saved me 100's over the last year or so!!)
Anyhoo best get to work :)
    Enjoy the sunshine...

Best of luck with the retirements plans LauraJo, I don't think I could ever go cold turkey on my MSE ways either!

How are you finding your job and the commute nowadays? And how is the pony?

    Thank you :)
OMG the commute is killing me!! Its only 3 days a week but is knackering! Doesn't help that the other 4 days I still have to get up for horses! Job is ok. Not sure how long I'll be doing it for but I'll get some experience and take the money!
I tried not being MSE for 5 mins but its not me :D:D

  • Hi LauraJo, glad the meal planning helped/s - I find just having a plan makes life easier. There's no way I'd want to come home after work and rustle something up  The money saving is an added benefit :)

Saving £100k towards retirement sounds an excellent plan to me :T:T:T

    Morning all
    Thanks Tilly :)
In work today so that's £30 profit on the petrol :)
OH been away so literally nothing in the fridge for tea so that might have to be a trip to the shops.
Went out for a w/spoons dinner last nite with my very pregnant mate. Paid for her dinner and drinks coz she'll have a baby to pay for soon. Only spent about £15 so a bargain really!
    Nearly the weekend.
