Well hello
Its been aaaaaages since I've posted!
So the news so far....
Bonus came in which was less than expected but I managed to find another £500 so managed to overpay £4500 at the end of March!!
That just gives me £1500 to find and I've just secured some work for June that will find £900 of that. Basically I feel like I have finished
I have just come back for a week in sunny Spain and and currently booking a long weekend away with the rents at the end of May (what have I let myself in for!!!) I'll pay for them too as they have been supportive with encourgement, food and essentials for growing our own veg!!
I wont lie, life is good! Its way less stressful although everytime I spend money it makes me stressed but I'll get over it!
The big thing I have noticed is now a gap in my life because, aside from holidays the day to day hasn't really changed. In short, I feel goal-less!!!
I have a couple of options:
1. Renovate the house. It is needed but I literally have no time, can't really be bothered and spending money is stressing me at the mo!!
2. Save for retirement. My OH has always said I can retire when I have 100k in the bank. Ok that's probably not enough to live on but he gets a pension in 9 years and we are planning on moving to a cheaper area so between the 3, we reckon we could be happy enough. Number 2 would also give an excuse for a new diary:D
Not sure if there is a 'saving for retirement section tho??!! Maybe I could pretend its for a house and keep it in here lol!!
Ultimately I would like to work part time but there is no option in my current role so would mean a new job which again, I can't be bothered to go and get yet! And ole misery indoors aint that keen on that idea!
I'm thinking number 2 might be the way to go

Yayyy!! Lovely to hear from you. Am thinking number 2 is the way to go and you can add a diary on here. Squirrel is doing that and its a great read as she plans her way to retirement after becomming MF.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
Have a read of mr money mustache.
Lovely to see you. X0 -

Hi all
Thanks for the tips, I'll take a look.
News in the mean time is that OH has set up a savings account thingy - yes actual savings, done off his own back! I'm amazed. He has set me one up too (as its something to do with a good rate of interest) but I haven't had a chance to look at the paperwork yet!
Happy Thursday everyone!Mortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k

Decision made (I think
)
I am going to finish paying the 1.5k at some point and then save £100k for retirement. OH retires in 9 years and I could then retire then too (aged 44 lush! He will be 51)
However I really don't like working so I wonder if I could bring that 9 years to something more like 6 or 7?
He would still have to work because he doesn't get his pension until then but I could retire and play with ponies all day?!
If I aim for 6 years then thats about £16.5k per year but I assume at some point I will get some interest on that? I really have no idea about savings so need to start some research.
6 years and counting..
Can I keep the thread here though please peeps?! I can't see anywhere else to put it and I want to keep motivated by keeping a diary. Basically I'm copying secret saving squirrel!! :rotfl::rotfl:Mortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k

Starting from today:
Assuming interest @2% and you also increase annual payments by 2%.
Year Total
1 £16,665
2 £33,997
3 £52,015
4 £70,740
5 £90,194
6 £110,397
7 £131,372 If you can invest in the stock market, possibly a lot more. Or a lot less :rotfl:.
Oh my goodness there will be no-one working in the UK soon at this rate :T.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0
