Really impressed by your commitment to getting shot of the mortgage. Have you been over to the grocery challenge on the old style board? June has just started and you'll get loads of ideas to help you stick to your new budget.

    Keep going!

Thanks! It is weird thing of wanting to get it paid v wanting to spend lots of money each money! At the moment the mortgage is winning but there is this constant nag of 'spend me, spend me, spend me'!!! I haven't heard of the grocery challenge...will take a look - thanks for pointing it out!

So we have now changed our dogs food to something much cheaper. One of them is allergic to everything so still not cheap cheap but better ....
We have gone from £63 for 13kg to £37 for 15kg. That'll save another £26 per month.
Its right that they chip in too!!!!

Not quite... but another month another payment (where does the time go?!)

This month we have gone over target and have £2.6k to add to the fund. I think this is because our monthly cost has been reducing but I haven't included that in my OP.

I read an interesting post the other day that mentioned that if you OP and don't reduce the term, they reduce the capital as well as the interest each month. Didn't realise this so will need to have a think about what I need to do??? Sums are getting too complicated!

Thanks Moneycurious! I think the more you get into it the more obsessive it gets...I'm sure others will agree! I think having an end date really helps (mine started as 7 years) and then thinking...if I did that it would bring it down by x months etc...

It really helps that the interest rates are low and that for me is my motivation - get as much paid as possible before we can't afford to do it!!

Lodger is going ok. OH hates it but knows its a means to an end. He is easy going and no bother but it is weird getting used to having someone in your house...just keep focusing on the end date!

It appears the best way to save is to totally knacker yourself so you can't go out, drink or have any fun!
Been house bound for 2 weeks now (after falling over - duh!!)
Saved a massive amount on petrol and going out in general. Not been able to pop to the shops for food top up's so have probably halved my grocery spend too this month. End of the month target looking good - will know more in a couple of days....!!
