    Hi
Newlywed - I have 7 different debts, all paid up to date until the DMP and I have only received a few letters and no phone calls. Don't let that stop you starting the DMP. I did and got myself into worse mess. They haven't rung as I deleted all the numbers I could before they knew about the DMP and gave one false one (actually to ensure no one else was hassled I go one of those free sim cards and used the number off that - picked that tip up somewhere on here!).
    Go for it!

Thanks. I did have another PAYG sim but not sure if it is still working. Will have to dig out the old phone and test and check. Then can ring them all and give them that. Thanks for the tip. I just wish I'd given them all my mobile number when I wrote and told them I'd moved. Perhaps it's just as well I didn't give it out to them all. Only one has my mobile and home number, was trying to sort it out by getting a loan 6 months ago and they wouldn't quote me without a home number :o

Does anyone feel guilty though that they contracted, agreed and signed to pay a set amount and now they're not/can't?

I know if you lost your job then you'd have no choice but mine isn't because of that and I feel guilty about not paying what I agreed to. :o

That's the very reason I'm hesitating from signing up for a DMP. Worried about the nasty letters and phone calls and worse still - if they ring old numbers they had for me as that will be my parents and my last place of work!!

But the way things are going, I need to either find an extra £200 a month or go on a DMP, otherwise the letters and phone calls will start in any case. :o

    Hi newlywed
I know how you feel, I am scared bout the letters have to do a
diy dmp because I don't have much money left over for the credit
card companies. Had advice from national debt line which gave
great advice to me and told me to write and send a token payment
to them which I did yesterday.

The companies don't have my phone number because I changed my number
a while ago they only have my old number I am so glad of this.
I will only contact them in writing.
Try not to worry and good luck.

I do sometimes feel guilty, but I do feel the banks have some responsibility. Our credit limits were raised so often, we did end up spending those new limits. We should have been more restrained, but where's the responsible lending?

Yeah I do feel guilty but my circumstances changed I can't do anything
bout that due to ill health which has reduced my income. Everyone's
circumstances are different. So don't worry!

But daisyblue is right the banks should take some responsibility
they kept raising my credit limit too.

There is only one good thing that maybe will come out of my
debt problem is that my son said that he will never have a credit card,
because he has seen me struggling to pay them.

My health has gone worse with all the stress, so maybe I can
    concentrate on getting well now.

I forgot to say what a great thread this is!

Perhaps if it's really worrying you then if they start, change your number BUT they might not ring - I have had one polite phone call but that's it! Nothing else! (as yet!!)

About feelin guilty - no I don't. I am paying back all the money, just without the interest, but they have certainly made PLENTY of profit from me so far and also I don't feel that I should have been lent all the moeny I have been. I never lied on an application. They knew how much I earnt and what other debts I had. Not one stopped upping their limits and so while no one forced me to spend, if they don't want more and more of these DMP cases, they need to start thinking about what they are offering to people. A possible credit card bill of at least £38,000+ (my total is from CCs and loans btw!!) plus all the loans I could get? Crazy.

  • I have flutters of guilt - out of a sense of loyalty to the bank - I'm sure you know the feeling "oh they trusted me and I've let them down". Which really is pathetic. But then I remember I'm repaying it and I also remember how the bank have upped the limit and offered consolidation at every opportunity even at this point they want to double my debt with their delightful "managed loan". How kind of them - I don't think!!
