My top tip if you are down to you last tenner is buy a sack of spuds, pasta, cheap tins of sweetcorn, onions, mayo, butter, tins tomatoes, tuna, flour, eggs

With this little lot you can always have chips, jacket spuds, mash, pasta salad, pasta bake, tuna melts on toast, roast pototoes, buns, yorkshire puds, tuna fishcakes and lots more.

Belive me this week due to giving ds2 £100 spending money for his hoilday i have made meals from nothing, tonights tea is a `cheap roast` all the trimings and sauages lol.
Pack up is all homemade this week down to the bread and the cakes and biscuits.

  • Hi everyone, I just wanted to say hello because I am in the process of setting up a DMP with the CCCS and read this thread most days now.

Two years ago, I called the National Debt Line because the amount of debt that we were in really scared me - it was close to £100,000! That's when I first found out about DMPs, IVAs, etc. Their talk of default notices, debt collection agencies and CCJs really scared me though. My hubby was against it as well, so we ended up not going through with it. I just felt so stupid and so ashamed - I still do!

I also found this website around that time and have been an avid 'lurker' ever since, picking up lots of tips. We have continued to juggle for the past two years, but have not really got anywhere very fast. We've managed to pay a few things off, but we're now BOTH convinced that this DMP route is our only option really if we want to get debt-free. We owe about £93,000 now and will pay just over £1000 per month to the CCCS with a debt-free date in about 7 years time.

I sent CCCS copies of all our statements on Thursday. I have just cancelled all my DDs and have destroyed all the credit cards. I will be spending this evening getting the DMP notification letters written ready to be posted off to all my creditors tomorrow.

I feel scared witless really, because we've never defaulted on anything before. I'm gonna get in such trouble from them all!! We have always paid what we owed, but then there just wasn't anything left so we lived on credit.

At the same time though, I feel quite good, because I'm FINALLY doing something to sort it all out. We've had consolidation loans in the past and that has only ended up making things worse. The DMP is scary but our only real option to sort it all out.

I know that the next few months will be difficult (I'm dreading the phone calls!) and I will probably get really panicky and depressed, so I'd love to become a member of this DMP Mutual Support Club. Being able to 'chat' to someone in the same boat would be great.

You've all helped me so much already, so thanks very much and good luck to you all.

    RainbowSapphire..

First of all welcome to our gang. Well done on facing up to your problems and sorting yourself out with CCCS.

Up until i started my DMP i had not defaulted or missed payments. I think i have had about 3 now. Once you have had the first one you just accept them. DO NOT feel ashamed or stupid. We have all felt like that but once ,like you have done, things start moving with your debts you accept you are going to get defaults etc and just take them in your stride.

Good luck and once again welcome.

    hi
i have also just consulted ccs and they have advised dmp i felt okay at first as they are so nice on the phone but after reading about defaults charging orders i am stressed out to say the least. I have also read these boards some time and assumed we could deal with debt ourselves by switching to life of balance transfers. We have been living off credit cards and just had to bite the bullet and admit we need help. I wish i had consulted ccs much earlier.
I have never missed a payment and just missed 1 and stopped all my direct debits to creditors, i am sending details to ccs tommorrow and they advised we may have the plan set up by 1st june.
I know we are not alone but right now it feels like it, i am so scared about the creditors refusing etc. I know i can budget with shopping etc as these boards have helped with ideas.
just wanted to have a moan sorry but i am living on my nerves.
husband is just as worried but he does not show it.
anyway wanted to join if thats okay.

    No Problem bowz25

Well done on posting. I was in much the same situation regards credit cards etc. Live off them to pay for things and then a consolidation loan to pay them off and before you know it the cards are back up to the limit again.

I thought i was going through this alone until i found this wonderfull site. There are some truly great people on here who will not judge but only offer support.

We even have a laugh on here every now and again. We are allowed that on a DMP i believe :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Welcome to the club

    Hi bowz25...

Honestly, don't stress out about it.

By and large, it's in the banks interests to accept a DMP, as they know that they'll get their money.

As for defaults and banks passing the debt onto collection agencies - you should look at this in the positive! There's much more chance of the DCAs accepting the DMP straight off - they've bought the debt from the bank at a lower sum, so are usually more accepting of the DMP itself.

Obviously, there are going to be a few stressful moments - there's definitely no pain, no gain I'm afraid, but the positives I've had since starting my DMP far, FAR outweigh the negatives - for the first time in years I'm in control of my money, and whilst my DMP is going to last for about 10 years, I can see a fantastic light at the end of that tunnel, and I feel incredibly good about the future!

Cut those cards up, get a (very) basic bank account and it all gets better:D

    All the very, very best.

    Hi YM

Click on 'quote' button and that'll give you the whole reply.

Delete off what you don't want, and at the end of all that put in [/quote.] (without that full-stop after the 'quote' bit though!).

That'll give you what you need!

    :)
