Many thanks to lic for this. I've asked for a satnav so I never have to stop and ask a man the way again :rotfl: . If/when it arrives I'm thinking of signing my mum up for a telly - does anyone who has already got one know if it's going to go out of style(ie not HD(?) ready) in the next year or so?0

but can you actually charge the unit from your pc with a usb cable?0

but can you actually charge the unit from your pc with a usb cable?
I have just plugged mine into the computer via a usb cable, and whilst it appears to be charging, there is a "ping pong" sound coming from the computer about every 5-6 seconds, and at one point a balloon came up saying something like "could damage your hardware", although when first plugged in the balloon says the usual " you have new hardware installed"Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
It mentions in the user manual that you can charge the unit from the card charger or the usb lead. Ok, but they don't supply the USB lead!!
It doesn't mention charging from the card charger, (don't think there is such a thing), in the manual, only the car charger, from the manual,(A350 CARRERA); -
Charging the Battery
Before using your PND for the first time, we recommend you to charge the unit for 2 hours via the car charge in order to charge the battery.
Plug the car charger into the USB socket
The red charging indicator on the front of the unit will light. When fully charged the red light is replaced with a green light.
When you use the PND in your car, we recommend that you always use the car charger in order to maintain the battery level.
Car Adaptor
When using your PND in the car we recommend that you always use the in-car charger to power the unit, especially on long journeys.
Plug the in-car charger int the USB socket of the unit. Plug the other vend of the adaptor into the car’s cigarette-lighter / 12v DC socket.
As a bit more info re my post above, the "ping pong" sound coming through the computer speakers is only there if the sat nav is turned on, if you charge from the computer whilst sat nav turned off, there is no "ping pong" sound, and the charging light is still on.
Have just reread your post that I quoted from here, and I do not think you mean "card charger" but rather "car charger" and as I have quoted from the manual here it does say; - " Plug the car charger into the USB socket", so it is actually charge from the car charger via the usb port, therefore no usb lead.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Having had the sat nav plugged into my computer for charging, it has now changed from red to green, suggesting complete charge, this was done whilst sat nav switched off, and when turning on, even though fully charged, with the usb cable still attached, I still get the "ping pong" sounds!Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

Sorry, I meant "Car charger":o Anyway, I've decided it's not for me, I thought I could use it whilst walking, but if the battery continually requires charging, it's no good for me.0

It actually says " Plug the USB cable or the car charger into the USB socket"0 -
