  • Hello Everyone!:j

Things have been a bit tough round here. Had surgery, been on crutches, lost job. But on the fab side BiL moved out into a flat of his own and DS passed his A levels and goes to uni in a couple of weeks (£120 a week for accommodation :eek::eek:) So by the middle of this month it will be just DH and I .... bliss.

Still popping coins..... have had to start pot number 2 as number 1 got full of shrapnel. Am trying really hard not to open it though its a real temptation since I've no income any more. Have got a telephone directory delivery round later this week - am looking at it as my gym membership but they pay me instead of me paying them!

    Hugs all round

Wow Kylie what a rough time you have been having :( Lets hope the worst is over now and you can enjoy all the lovely 'together' time :kisses3:

Hi katy74 welcome to the clan! You've already made a great start with saving, just carry on as you are doing. Our lovely leader Sue-uu will be along very soon to give you your very own SPC member number. All she asks is that you read post #1 very carefully :D so that you know what we are about, then pop your number on your signature along with a target if you like. Then just keep popping in here to tell us how you're doing. The banter on here is marvellous as most of us are totally off our rockers :rotfl::rotfl:Do enjoy yourself!

Oh poor you mishmogs :( Hope you get better soon x

I just thought I'd answer what a few of you have asked (including Sue-uu) regarding eB*y. It's like anything else really...easy when you know how! All you need is a good digital camera to take clear shots of your item then just register with eB*y and follow the on screen instructions. It's really easy to upload photo's you just click on a button and the eB*y site does the upload for you. You will need to give a clear and honest description in the listing and it's fairly easy to open a Paypal account too so long as you have a debit/credit card to prove your identity. I''m sure jakes-mum will have loads to add to this too!

    Happy potting everyone! x

PS a big WELCOME to any newbies I've missed :)

  • Re the savings you have at home now, why not seal it so that there's not so much temptation to spnd?! That's what SPC (Sealed Pot Challenge) stands for....sealing the pots! ;)

Im ashamed to admit that sometimes the temptation to go and get the tin opener does try and get the better of me :0, We have broken into it before now to help with unexpected bills... But the copper has never been touched.

I was a bar maid for quite a while and when the OH popped in for a few I used to make sure his change was filled with all the £2 coins in the till, best thing is he still doesn't know that's what I used to do :D

I'm also after a bit of advice too, I have just started ebaying (selling that is) what do you all do with the money you make? I was planning on just leaving it in paypal so that I could spend on ebay or other shops that accept paypal around christmas time? So was just hoping others could tell me what they did with their profits?
    TIA

It all depends on what I need, firstly I always check my ebay fees after ive sold everything and deduct that from my paypal balance (as my fees are set up to be paid from paypal) If I have anything less that £50 after fees I will leave it in paypal for any purchases I might make, if I start to build up a good bit of money, i'll transfer it into the savings account ive got set up for withdrawals :D

Make sure you verify your paypal account as until you do your limited to a certain amount in payments and withdrawals (I think its £750 but its been a looooooong time since I set mine up so I may be wrong), I know I reached my limit very quickly and it was bloomin annoying waiting for the verification to withdraw so I do suggest doing it sooner rather than later.

Please please please make sure you list everything as accurately as possible and that you keep your postage as fair as possible, buyers have alot of clout on ebay and can soon have you restricted through low stars, the 50p you add on top of the postage price that you think is fair for some cellotape and brown paper can and will be seen as extortionate by certain buyers.
Items not as discribed are a bug bear of alot of sellers, it your top is slightly bobbly, put it in the listing, if the lace on a pair of trainers is a bit frayed at the end, put it in the listing. Any buyer who sticks an item not recieved claim in, will be told to return it via a trackable method and you have to refund the full winning bid and the initial postage, its automatic im afraid and no amount of 'we dont refund postage' in your main text makes any difference, its in ebays rules.

I know im painting a bit of a bleak picture of ebay but unless you understand what can go wrong you'll struggle and be on the ebay board before you know it asking why ebay have refunded your buyer.

The last piece of advice I can give is dont bother to send things recorded that sold for less than £46 (unless its tickets etc that are not covered by royal mail compensation) 1) it annoys buyers that they have to wait in to sign for something that is low value and can fit through the letterbox and 2) if it does get lost, your covered by royal mail anyway so recorded is just a waste of money. Make sure you ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS get proof of posting and keep them till you get feedback or 45 days have passed so that if an 'item not recieved' claim is filed you have your proof to claim from the royal mail (YOU have to prove they got it, but for under £46 its just not worth it with the royal mail compensation rules)
