It's a technology thing, mainly with computer software.

The first version is Version 1.0.
Then a minor improvement version is Version 1.1.
A further minor improvement would be Version 1.2.
Then a significant improvement would be Version 2.0.
A minor improvement on that would be Version 2.1.
    Etc.

Aha! So going by that, if they've made a slight tweak to their cake recipe, or whatever is being discussed, it'd be a Version 1.1 then!:rotfl:

Yes, if they add a new minor ingredient then I'd say that would be Version 1.1.

If it's not enough of a change to be called Version 1.1 then it would be called Version 1.0.1.

Ooh another one. Calling a pram or buggy a "travel system".

I love this thread - thank you so much for starting it. I think I share many pet hates with others:

    * bad punctuation and spelling (especially apostrophes in the wrong place, or not used)
    * bad punctuation and spelling which, having been corrected, is then 're-corrected' back to being wrong
    * any text speak at all. OMG. !!!!!! it's so annoying. LOL. You get the picture.
    * 'can I get a coffee?' (well, you could ask for one, yes). When did that start to be acceptable English?
    * 'tick the box', 'blue-sky thinking' etc. - all of those drive me mad
    * 'in this space' (e.g. 'we are doing some work in this space')

My brother and I were once helping our youngest brother do his CV. Having talked about what we thought he should put in it, my brother then said 'yes, I think we should conversationalise this'. I laughed - assuming he was being ironic. He wasn't. He actually used that as a word. That was 5 years ago and I've just started to get over it.

I feel much better for getting all that off my chest!

People calling pushchairs "buggies" or even worse, "strollers".
  • The overuse of 'obviously' - especially when someone is explaining something to you. If it was that obvious, you wouldn't need to tell me.

    And everyone or everybody;
'everyone will love this' - unless you've asked the full population of the world, how do you know?
'everyone one can do xyz' - no they can't, there are always exceptions.

Television presenters have bad habit of this, and I always shout at the tv to correct them!
Common sense just isn't that common any more....
  • Agh when people describe themselves as 'mad' or 'crazy', 'bonkers' or a complete 'nutter'- you just sound like a moron
  • People calling pushchairs "buggies" or even worse, "strollers".

I hate the word pushchair, it really bugs me. I had a pram , which was a carrycot and then moved onto the seat bit and then a buggy which was the umbrella style fold away one :rotfl:
