Why risk it being confused with a 1 with a top but without a bottom? There's often no context to distinguish the two as they are interchangeable, so you need to be sure that when written they are clearly different.
I'm just finishing my Maths degree and it is definitely a mathematician thing. I also cross my Zs to differentiate from my 2sThe trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
I can't stand what I term any "management speak" such as:
"moving forward" - were we going to move backwards???
"bench marking" - sounds like something to do with weights and a gym
"process mapping" - always brings an image of the underground map to me
"take it to the highest level" - What?!?!
"issues" - just can't stand that word!!!!
"potentially" - my friend recently got a promotion and has really started overusing it!

I agree with this too, I didn't start crossing my sevens until I started working for an accountant and my figures kept adding up wrong because I was misreading ones for sevensFirst baby due October 2013 :j0 -

It's also a sciency thing to do too. Try writing "2" or "7" on a teeny tiny eppendorf lid & working out which one is which later if the 7 hasn't been crossed ! In the same manner, I always cross "Z" too.
Oh, and don't get me started on putting a line under a "6" or a "9". It's weird how I do all this stuff as second nature but at some point in my early days in the lab I had to remember to do all of this stuff"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -

Ah now see you actually say it whu-ter-fer (phonetically) - least my hubby does sometimes - reminds me of fonejackers doovder (DVD)! :rotfl:A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
I also can't stand to hear the word dialogue used instead of conversation.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

All the text speak on Facebook is annoying. It puts me off going on there sometimes.
When people say "i'm hungry me" or "i'm feeling tired me"... arrgghh!
Spelling 'tired' as tiered on facebook! Not just one or two people but about half of my friends every day (I think I need new friends).0 -
I have another one... goodgoodgood all run together like that.
I have also coincidentally realised that most of my hated expressions are used by one of my relations. I don't think that's a coincidence0 -
"Thinking outside the box" - They encouraged this until there was no-one thinking inside the box where it mattered.
One of my fondest (un)professional memories involves me telling the company Chief Exec "for the love of all that's good in the world will you please get back inside the bloody box...".
His face was an absolute picture. :rotfl:0 -
One I spotted on here from a company rep... 'take ownership of'. What is wrong with 'helping someone with' or 'solving' a problem?0
