I'm reporting back as promised, I made mine on 1st March and yesterday I noticed they're going mouldy! Really disappointed, may have one more try and add some vodka or salt or something. If that doesn't work I'll give up... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

In my other life I make and sell smellies. One good recipe is to use powder stuff that you mix with soil and swells when water is added. A little vodka added along with the essential oils will prevent mould.
However, far better that these are something calle aroma beads. You buy these an mix 30:100 scented oil:beads. The beads suck up the oil and you can put them in a bowl etc. One thing that is v popular is sewing them into little pockets made of organza. Great in a car or to hang up anywhere. You can also melt the beads inside a cookie cutter in the oven to make flexible plastic fresheners

Hi ladies,
I am having an absolute NIGHTMARE finding distilled water: I must have rung a dozen shops of every description from pharmacies, health food shops, supermarkets and nowhere seems to have it. If I boil normal water will that do the same job as it will kill (if not remove) the microorganisms?
Thanks for your help! Please call me 'Pickle'

Have tried this with both distilled water and adding vodka and noticing mould growing after a couple of weeks, saying that i have extended the life a bit by scrapping out the mouldy bits into the bin and its been a few days and ive not yet noticed more growing. Maybe i sneezed on the top when filling the containers ... i did have a cold at the time.HSBC [STRIKE]£3223.20[/STRIKE] £2060.00Cap1 [STRIKE]£1724.91[/STRIKE] £1782.00OD [STRIKE]£939.78[/STRIKE] £200.00No 49 of £2012 in 2012.. £645.10 so far & Crazy Clothes £14.09/£100.00 ReducingtheToiletryStash2012 UU12/IN 20 March Grocery 0.00/£65.00 & LbsNot£s Lost 14Lbs0

Try Halfords or a garage, distilled water is what's used in car batteries; I think people have posted about using boiled water earlier in this thread and it doesn't work.
Destroyer, I found that once mine started going mouldy they were really smelling nasty.
I've given up on these gel air fresheners now, I've gone back to the essential oil on a piece of cotton wool tucked behind the radiators, works a treat!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Thanks for the tip, but Halfords now only sells deionised water, according to the website.
Where have people recently found their supplies from, as I can only seem to find the deionised stuff? Please call me 'Pickle'
