Where can you get the 40p breathalyser??

    Thanks

I was about to say the same thing - where are the quoted 40p ones? Halfords, as usual, has them at the rip-off rate of £5.99 a pair, or £3/€4 each (compared to the going rate of €1 each, or allegedly 40p somewhere or other).

As an earlier writer said, I don't drive after drinking anything, so I just need two to keep forever in my glove box. :(

    Where are the 40p ones?!?

Reports state French police will conduct random searches on vehicles at ports.
A random search of vehicles with GB stickers.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

As for where to buy them in France - you buy them at the pharmacy (of which there are many, as you would expect in a nation of hypochondriacs). Our local one already has a sign on the door saying they're all out. The magic word that you'll need in there is "ethylotest". Followed by a big fat "s'il vous plait", naturellement ;)
  • According to the BBC:
"Foreign drivers are included in the new rule, however there is a grace period until November."

The article was published on 1 July, and as I am not allowed to post with links, just edit this where appropriate...

They are apparently having supply problems but I doubt a gendarme would be impressed by this 'defence' if it isn't true!!

But you have to be in France first to buy them in France and take the risk of being stopped - Personally I would rather buy them in UK first

Can't even see them on that well known auction site

^^ As mentioned, there is the grace period until November, so I wouldn't worry about that. Why pay over the odds when they've already specifically said that foreigners won't be affected by the new legislation until November?
  • Just returned from France today. Unable to buy any of these breathalyzers (alcohol tester they're called in France) from any supermarket all the way up from Bordeaux to Dunkirk. Even the French can't find them according to a lady in a one of the Tourist Offices in Normandy. Methinks a case of someone underestimating the demand. Going back there in October so I'll pick some up then.......that's if the French Government haven't cancelled it all.
