i recieved mine a few days ago and its been excellent just a few slight bugs that i had.
one was that the FF/RW on DIVX files warent working so i updated the firmware to V2 and it sorted that out.
Second was that DIVX files wernt as smooth as they should be very very slight delay. very hard to tell but noticable.
the way i sorted this out was by downloading the firmware from http://voyager222.no-ip.com/pyps/yamada6700_more.html
this sorted both problems out. But please read instruction very carefully.
You need to ReFlash using V1 of the firmware.
Then Reset the player to default
Then Flash with the firmware form the Page, Version A. it supports Xvid Packet Bitstream. which is why there is a slight delay in the picture. its like missing one frame only.
Then Reset again just to be on the safe side.
and it all works.
Only problem is that when one tries to make it region free, it shows ascii characters instead of the numbers 1,2,3....
i just guessed mine i pushed the down button around 4 times and volla. its mainly trial and error. but DOES work.0 -
Hi,
Bought one of these as a) it was a very good price b) it supported the mpeg4 advanced simple profile. Arrived on Wednesday and unfortunately I'm losing faith in this player already.
1st problem was that it had a FF bug with Xvid's which meant the sound would restart at the beginning when you managed to stop it FF'ing thus way out of sync. Not a problem I though as there is newer firmware on the Umax site and promptly upgraded to V1 (btw this is not the factory default firmware). That fixed the FF bug.
2nd problem was that with V1 firmware anywhere from the start to about 10 mins into playing an Xvid it would start emitting a continous tone and the video would freeze. I then upgraded to V2 from the Umax site, that fixed the tone and freezing problem.
3rd problem, V2 of the firmware doesn't support packet bitstream which is a default option on the later Xvid encoding codecs and results in jerky playback. This can be fixed with a tool called mpeg modifier but I've already burnt alot of my Xvid's onto DVD and don't want to reburn.
4th problem, the 6700 supports the Adanced Simple Profile however the limitation is GMC can only have 1 warppoint. Divx uses GMC with 1 warppoint but Xvid uses 3 warppoints and most of my ASP encoded videos are using Xvid GMC then they won't playback properly. See here for a description of Warppoints .... http://www.gromkov.com/faq/conversion/xvid_options.html
Now I'm willing to accept that maybe I have a duff player and that a replacement would work with the V1 firmware ok thus solving my need for FF and packet bitstream. However from my reading of various forums I don't believe the 4th problem can be fixed even though the player is advertised with Advanced Simple Profile support. Also from my reading I don't think there is a standalone player out there that can fully support the ASP at the moment.
So when you read feedback on this player saying "It played everything I threw at it" don't believe it will play everything you will throw at it.
This is not a criticism of the post, it is a bargain and this is a model I've been thinking about buying for a while.
Cheers

You can download a util to disable packet bitstream. Ist smal and easy to do and takes a few minuets at most. I havent got the link at mo as I am using a different pc.
Packet bitsream is a useless addon and as you rightly said as teh default option now with DivX and XViD, it doesnt appear to add anything apart from making files run slow.
I dont think any players support packet bitstream certainly the 6700 is the latest generation mpeg players.
Here we go found the utility

I'd love a divx-capable player but I would rather sit and watch the wallpaper than buy anything from Special Reserve.
Pixmania have a Yamada MX 105 for 35 quid, does anyone know if it is any good?
