MSE News: TalkTalk raises prices for millions

Keep a record of all your transactions with TalkTalk - dates, what was agreed, everything. I had murder trying to leave them (having been left without service for weeks) and I know others who had the same. They don't regularly top lists of consumer complaints for nothing!'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.' Goethe

I'm on an old package: Talk International Anytime with 40gb download allowance which I pay £11.31 for a month.
On top of this I have £13.80 line rental and £2.55 call display option.
In light of the line rental going up (again) I feel I should review my options.
Does anyone know if there is a better package out there?
Thanks0 -
If you are moving from TalkTalk be very careful as when we did this we got cut off by TalkTalk who then blocked our line for 3 months so we couldn't get a phone line connection until months had passed!
We tried 3 different companies and finally Virgin - the most expensive got us a phone line and we've gone with them for broadband too - we had a few teething problems (but have had enormous problems with other providers like Talktalk and Sky) but since getting it sorted, we've had no other problems and although our contract time is up now, we've stayed with them as they've been so good in comparison to others!
I have taken my complaint to the Ombudsman and Talktalk have even had the cheek to produce a file of letters they claimed they sent me warning I was going to be cut off, etc - but I caught them out as they've done the letter after they'd actually cut me off?!! So I've sent that back to the Ombudsman, who initially said I deserved only an apology from Talktalk and not any compensation, as I'm asking for £200 to cover expenses and to recompense me as I broke my knee during all this fiasco and was left in bed for 7 weeks with no broadband - a killer!
I've been waiting for a final response from the O' for over 6 months now!!! So it's not a quick process at all but I'm determined to get this as another black mark against this rotten-to-the-core company as they were so bad to us - take my advice, don't ever go with them!0 -
I got same email and I don't have line rental with them just broadband - line rental is with another provider. The increase has come 2 days after negotiating a new 12 month contract with them but despite this their terms and conditions at 15.1 say they can. Not great0

I'm still waiting for them to let me know what my contract expires (I've been with them for years). Did you have trouble getting your MAC CODE from them?Keep a record of all your transactions with TalkTalk - dates, what was agreed, everything. talktalk are LLU so yes you have to have both landland and broadband with them..
great my broadband with go up to 29 a month. robbing !!!!ers...
Not entirely true. I had both telephone & broadband with TalkTalk, then took my tel calls off them back to landline provider BT; TalkTalk only provided my broadband. However this is not usual I know but as a legacy having previously been with Tiscali whom they bought out.
I only stayed with TT as my email was linked to them for loads of things, I did negotiate a price drop but at the expense of tying myself to them for 12 months.
I asked for a MAC code 10 days ago as I have remained totally disillusioned with their 'service'; TT rep tried talking over my MAC request & offered to reduce their charges (too late!)but this just sealed the dissatisfaction for me and after buying my own domain name with email & changing all registrations over, am now totally with BT. The MAC code from TT came through in 2 days, and a week later the router arrived on the specified date by BT. TT Internet stopped at around midday, the new router was plugged in (not that we HAD to do that having our own Netgear one already) the blue lights came on and that was it. Sorted with no issues.
I do have the 'joy' of a TT bill due to breaking the contract 3 months before it was due to end but well worth it.
Internet speed with Tiscali had been satisfactory but with TT it had dropped to an abysmal 1.5mbps. BT deal that I signed for is absolutely fine, speed is back up to between 7-10 Mbps so until the exchange is upgraded that is fine too.0 -
Note the small print on their web site about the upfront £114 payment:
"Available to customers paying £114 in advance for 12 months by debit/credit card. Representative to £9.50 a month. Saving of £60.00 with Value Line Rental compared to monthly line rental of £14.50. Standard early termination charges still apply. Customers currently on discounted line rental will lose their existing discount. TalkTalk reserves the right to charge line rental to the full price of £14.50 should the initial upfront payment be reversed or changed back. We will contact you to let you know when your Value Line Rental is coming to an end to give you the opportunity to renew."
Does this mean that they can start charging you £14.50 even 2 months after paying the NEW upfront £114 payment??0 -

Me too - I was a bit taken aback when I read the e-mail yesterday that's for sure! I've asked them (also through their contacts page) when my contract expires last night. They "aim" to reply within 24 hours - we'll see!victoriasecret wrote: »We only have broadband with talk talk, previously tiscali and they are hiking our broadband to £25!!!
