Fine. But in the (former) Midlands region, the current Scottish Power fix (albeit with an early termination charge) is 2.5% cheaper than "Blue". Of course that is not "captured".

As to highlighting to potential customers that "deferred discount" tariffs from the usual suspects are cheaper, I think customers are better off without that "advice".:)

EDF wouldn't contact if it were within the £52 a year bracket. But anyone can check anytime with consumption at edfenergy.com/pricepromisealert and it would certainly show there. Fair do you think? The £1 a week criteria is very clearly stated, and also that some tariffs may fall within that.

not with any sanction at all. Just as a consumer who happens to work for EDF

If you are so proud of your company and their revolutionary new tariff, it's curious that you failed to mention your personal interest in your first five posts?
    I'd call that spamming.

I have just come across this thread after seeing this new offer. All I can say is it is very nice of Moneyfiend to give up time on this board and I hope they are still reading it - welcome Moneyfiend :)

I am with edf, out of contract, on standard variable DD (yes I know) and would like to switch to this tariff.

Logged on and found the "change product" button but it is giving me three options - 2 for "Blue" and 1 for "Fixed".

One of the "Blues" is called offset and another (I presume) is for non-offset.

Once again, welcome Moneyfiend if you are still around.....

Back on topic overall I think the tariff is a step in the right direction. I agree EDF need to sort other things out but hey you need something positive as well as firefighting when things go wrong.

My understanding is that you can elect to pay an additional carbon offset for the energy you use. It's a bit like paying extra for a green tariff but instead of having a separate green tariff, it's an option bolted on to the Blue tariff.

    Hope that makes sense.

Well I have gone for it - very simple to switch products online as an existing EDF customer. It gave an indication of a saving of £49 per year for the non-offset Gas and £37 for the offset gas option as compared to the standard variable with DD that I was on. Not a massive saving but better than nothing.

Given that all our bills are high because of providing greener energy, I went for the non-offset option as we are paying enough as it is. I am sure many other people will feel the same.

It gave a new reduced Direct Debit figure but then again I am many hundreds "in credit" and my monthly amount is way more than it needs to be. So that is a good thing at least - if it comes off.

    Just for clarification

Green energy is, theoretically, about creating pollution-free energy whereas carbon offset is about paying for the pollution your energy use creates.

You're right of course but our bills are £££s higher because of contributions to wind farms and solar energy panel providers (the "greener" energy movement) and so then being asked to pay just a "tad more" to offset might be seen as the straw that breaks the camel's back :)

And low carbon energy is very different to 'green' energy.

For the avoidance of all doubt, however, it might have been helpful if Moneyfiend had a statement in a signature which declared an interest.

e.g. Although I work for EDF, any opinions I may express are my own and are not necessarily those of the company.

This sort of statement is quite common in this forum and it avoids the suspicion of spamming.
