You probably mean the Novus Alpha...

How long will these companies last? Remember Adam Blair and the Talex GPS scam?
Have always been sceptical with promises of free updates for life that's the reason have not purchased one yet . Rather stick to my Tomtom for the time being .
  • But the point is this company is still going - we took our punt maybe eight years ago that it would last.

The fact that they now find it more expensive to maintain the service to us because they've moved on to new products is irrelevant.
  • As far as I can see it's the same as if TomTom were to say retrospectively that after the 12m of free updates when you purchased the unit, now for it to work at all you'll need to sign up to an annual subscription.
  • I have 3 classic road angels, with lifetime subscriptions and received the same letter yesterday. I'm going to speak to the Citizens advise on Monday. 8 years is not a life time.

The company must make their money from subscriptions and they are not bothered about their first customers that started their business.

This is a review from a Halfords customer about the Road Angel Gem !!!

    Features/Spec

Cons: rubbish, not useful, doesn't have all fixed cameras covered, laser feature questionable

"I would not recommend buying this product as it has problems locating the fixed cameras. I have used the product only twice now since I have brought it as I do not think it is useful. I went past three fixed cameras in the same journey, in which none were detected, even though the product had been updated. Also, it randomly says there's a laser near the car when there is not one around!!! It even said there was a laser when I had it pointing towards the floor inside the car!!!"

Would you recommend this product to a friend? No

I've also received notification from Road Angel advising of their intended discontinuation of lifetime support and have emailed my objection. I consider this to be a breach of contract and intend taking legal advice. Seeing that others may be as disguntled as I am, I'll also ask my lawyer about the possibility of some sort of class action, should others wuish to join in. I'll post the answer in case anyone else is interested.
  • I have also had the letter and sort legal advice, they clearly haven't as I have been informed that they can not do this and I will be taking them to small claims.
I have always loved my Road angel and fully supported the company from day one, I have always had great customer service and I would never bad mouth them but this is a terrible terrible discussion, I will be taking this further unless the directors come to there senses.

A Very disappointed EX Road Angel customer
  • Ditto for me, I received the letter from Road Angel Group Ltd last Thursday.

Cofi53: I'd be interested to hear what your lawyer has to say on the idea of a class action, as I think it is disgusting what the directors of Road Angel are trying to get away with here.

I will also be passing a copy of the letter onto the consumers association by way of Which as I have been a subscriber of theirs for many years and I am sure that they'll be very interested to hear what Road Angel Group are trying to do.

A very unhappy and disgruntled Road Angel Classic owner with "lifetime" subscription....

We have a 1987 Ford Granada Mk 3 that we have had for 21 years , last Saturday we picked up our son from Uni a 180 mile round trip.

The car carried three adults and all my son's gear , according to Road Angel it would have been scrapped after 7 years !!!

    I think not.
  • I too bought a Road Angel Classic in 2005/6 and opted for the Lifetime" subscription as it seemed a good deal. Again I have had no problems with it. I am emailing my dismay to Road Angel and urge all subscribers to do the same.
