Must add my two cents to the topic about what it's like. I started on E block today, in BIW. I have to learn variety of jobs. Non of the jobs are particularly difficult, or physically demanding, nor are our takt times, as long as you keep working, you can have a bit of a natter at the same time if there is somebody around, provided you keep on top of your work! It is physically demanding but time goes quick ,Feel like iv really lucked out after talking to some of the people from trim n finish. Having said that, one person i know from trim and final who started today who i met after the shift told me he is already considering packing it in if the intensity like that continues as he feels he can't keep it up, people are dropping out all the time. Not me tho so don't get any ideas :P

Glad you are enjoying it punk84 for it comes down to this. how much do you want a job you can get minimum wage jobs and do the same amount of work at the end of the week at jaguar land rover you get a good wage some people obviously feel you should get money for nothing my job is tough but thats life one of my friends is in a terrible job for minimum wage doing an awful lot more than me dont give up on the job your speed will come nobody is up to speed after 1day just get through the learning period and your speed will come naturally but if you want to leave there are thousands waiting to replace you

Thats pretty much what i said to him, convinced him to give a decent shot. But ultimately you can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
  • I can't believe people are considering packing it in after 1 day, Unbelievable. You have to give yourself at least 2 weeks, give it a decent shot and if you still can't do it/don't like it then fair enough.

You won't get better pay for similar work so you just have to stick with it. On friday afternoon when you have a decent wedge if your account you soon forget about the hard work you put in.

quitting after the first day is silly...you waited so long to get here..worked so hard ..online tests, manual tests, interview , drugs test, pera training/tests and to throw it all away after 1 days work is stupid.

From my experience I think there definately will be people who cant hack it and i can understand why but nothing comes easy and you have to work for it!., dont give up is all i can say it will get easier as you settle in.

I convinced him to take it one step at a time, and let them know he is struggling, they would rather you ask for help, than to just sack it off, they seem to be eager to help people, which is unusual in my opinion. Especially for agency workers. He's said he would stick it out for a few more weeks. Hopefully he will be fine. I think he was just quite overwhelmed and intimated by it. Even i was. With regards to the email people have recieved i PERSONALLY wouldn't look to into it, i think it's just a way for them to stop ringing in everyday!

    Right people,

I got a call from Manpower this morning. I have to go to the solihul site for a 6 week cover period I start monday with 1 days induction. She said on the phone that Castle Bromwich aren't taking on till after xmas now so they're putting people on cover shifts till then until they can get start dates for the people that will have jobs.

I don't know how much use this is to anyone, I was hopign for the propper induction and serious start job. I'm not sure if they're doing this because of people walking out of the job and they're sick of wasting the time training. I know as much as everyone here.
