quick update guys and girls, i finished my pera training friday 21/09/12, and started on the track today in D block trim & final. All i can say is enjoy the 2 weeks of training because its the easiest thing you will do..very laid back and relaxed, loads of waiting around.... But on the track its a VERY different ball game. Very intense and high pressure. You literally have 2 or 3 mins (takt time) to do your job, 1 mistake or wrong part/dropped screw/nut or a screw isnt going in properly and before you know it you are rushing to catch up.
Some jobs have a number of short steps in the process and others have fewer steps but they are big steps that take more time. overall i think it balances out no matter where you work. But 1 thing i found was that people keep stopping the track so thats good for the workers (not jag) because it gives you a chance to catch up or get ahead if you need to...not a chance to chat to the guy next to you like some poeple started to do. Theres no harm in talking and working but dont get distracted by it.
The work is very easy to learn...i got introduced to my mentor i.e trainer who is already working that job and was left to it. I watched him for a bit and said i'll try to do a few different stages of the process of that task to learn. .I was getting him to check my work after we both finished a car as he was quicker than me so we had time to. I found it easy to learn and got the hang of it within 30min/1hr maximum. The rest was ironing out creases in my own technique so i get faster.
Hard work though as your constantly active and on your feet, no stopping ..only on breaks... i will now need to concentrate on my speed. Its good that the proces is repetitive so the more you do it, the better/faster you get.
I think It also depends on who you are working with..some people are good at explaining things and know that you are a complete beginner so will break it down to a T. other assume that you've got in so you must know what your doing...and briefly show you without explaining. I found mine wasnt good at explaining that and i learnt when i put a clip in the wrong whole and he picked it up. But you learn from your mistakes i suppose. At the end of the day they are workers..they are not professional trainers so you dont know what to expect and hope you end up with someone good at explaining things.
Its quite physical and demanding in terms of being active so i think those who are over weight / used to sitting in a office job or lasing around doing nothing will have a bit of a shock. I enjoy keeping active and go to the gym and i know i will easily get into it by the end of the week and very much looking forward to getting stuck in again tomorow.
I saw a bunch of new starters getting a tour of the place today so they must be on their induction today.0 -
17000 is the number of applicants for the jobs not the amount that been through the final interview stage0
-
Can I ask the people that have started, when do we get paid for our induction, the following week?0
-
You have to do a week in hand you get paid the second week0
-
I have also just had that e-mail, thing im worried about is everyone saying its very active hard work, i broke my leg 6 months back and although i am back on my feet/walking etc i am still suffering with it, but ill just crack on, i need this job0

Must add my two cents to the topic about what it's like. I started on E block today, in BIW. I have to learn variety of jobs. Non of the jobs are particularly difficult, or physically demanding, nor are our takt times, as long as you keep working, you can have a bit of a natter at the same time if there is somebody around, provided you keep on top of your work! It is physically demanding but time goes quick ,Feel like iv really lucked out after talking to some of the people from trim n finish. Having said that, one person i know from trim and final who started today who i met after the shift told me he is already considering packing it in if the intensity like that continues as he feels he can't keep it up, people are dropping out all the time. Not me tho so don't get any ideas :P0
