My OH got an email this morning to say he's successfully completed the manual assessment and that they'd be in touch to confirm if he's been selected for the next stage of recruitment. They also said this may take time due to the high volume of applicants, guess only time will tell. Fingers crossed!

If he gets an interview I'll definitely be encouraging him to do his home work, is there anything specific he could do with reading up on about the company or in general? I've read that they're big on flexibility and team work, he played rugby for 10 years so I'm sure he could use that to his advantage and would be willing to do what ever shifts they require.

It's all very exciting, him getting this job would be amazing for us (as i'm sure it would be for everyone who applies) as we have a 2 year old and another baby on the way and his current full time job pays a pittance with little room for progression. Just trying stay realistic and not get too ahead of ourselves.

After expecting to wait a while, my partner got a call this afternoon. He has an interview for next Tuesday at midday, he's over the moon! I'm fretting and already making sure he has all his paperwork and stuff that he'll need to bring with him.

I have a couple of questions about the documentation he'll need to take with him. Sorry if they're obvious/stupid. I just want to make sure he's all set and ready to go.

    1. The email he received after the phone call asks him to bring details of employment over the last 2 years, he's been at the same job for that period of time. What sort of documentation would he need to bring? Does he just need to write down where he's worked and what his role was etc, or does he need an official letter from his employer or something? He never received a contract to my knowledge.

    2. Proof of address: We are on pre-payment meters so don't get regular utility bills as such, but just last week we received an 'annual summary' from our electric company (basically tells you what your usage was over the past year). On the letter it states it's not a bill but it's addressed to my oh. Would this count as proof of address? He has yet to update his address for his bank since we moved and is still registered at his parents house. If the annual summary from the Elec company doesn't suffice do you think if he were to go in to a branch and get it changed sometime this week that they'd be able to process it in time for him to get a mini statement as proof of address do you think?

    3. RE: Mothers maiden name for the Disclosure Scotland criminal record check, does he need to bring this in the form of his birth certificate or does he simply need to have the name on hand or written down?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I know some of the questions are probably obvious, but we just want to be sure! Would hate to ruin his chance over something silly.

RE: Interview questions, I think they vary but from what I've read in this thread they tend to centre around teamwork and flexibility, you also have the standard interview questions: Why do you want to work here? How to you intend on getting to work? etc.

Would be great to hear more from someone who had an interview recently though.
  • I've been there about 7 months and in the interview focus on following process and looking at constant ways to improve the process. Quality they like to hear about also. Team work is also important to mention.

I just took details of my employment. Dates and contact details etc. he will need to provide his address he is registered under to vote etc as they may cross reference with the electoral roll. A bank statement within last 3 months is perfect!

Great thanks, I'll get him to write down his employment details. Should be able to get hold of the exact date he started from work.

I'll also send him down to the bank after work one day this week to get his address changed and then get a mini statement. He's still registered to vote at his parents house so I'm getting him to register to vote at our current address as we speak just to be safe!

If I was you I would just stick with how it is at the minute and just use his current registered address etc because you have to supply address and proof for the last 3 years I think for the criminal check ?

Ahh, well he's already updated his details on the electoral roll, he needed to anyway so he can vote next year as his parents don't live locally. Also his driving licence has our current address on it (clearly he's not great at keeping all his details updated *face palm*) which he took as photo id to the manual assessment and that's the address he would have put on the online application form, if he was asked, can't remember now it was nearly 2 months ago.

The email he received said he needed his mothers maiden name for the criminal check, it didn't mention anything about supplying proof of address for the last 3 years? It all seems so complicated, or maybe I'm just making it more complicated than it needs to be.

270 before or after tax? Either way you'll be on more and after a few annual increases of 10% (plus annual pay rise) you will be on a lot more. Think long term. The agency work will become permanent, unless you're a total numpty and ruin it for yourself. 1 year Manpower. 1 year Short Term Contract with JLR. After 2 years you get a permanent JLR contract. Patience is key.

Track work is obviously restrictive. You will get cover to go to the toilet, but it doesn't always come straight away as there may be no one available. That's the nature of the job- you learn to hold it in. If you have IBS, start fasting during working hours! :p Mobiles are not allowed, unless you have express permission from your management to use them in emergency situations (i.e, if partner is going into labour any time soon). You can use mobiles on breaks in designated rest areas.

Busy job? Depends on where you end up. Intially there is a period you might run around like a headless chicken but you will get used to it and end up finding time. If you end up in the new building in Solihull life for now will be very chilled out. At least until they ramp up the speed of the track. They will make you earn your money soon enough, but you're paid well for it. Transfers between Castle Brom and Solihull are not likely, unless you apply for a position at the other site. Which is better? Too many factors involved to tell.

Only you can decide whether you're willing to give up a job you know well and are paid reasonably well for in order to risk it for a longer commute, shift work, more graft but better finances even taking extra fuel costs out.

lexon 123 big thanks for answer.

Sorry, think most, if not all, people on this thread are on about the Production Operative roles.

Don't know what the assessment/interviews for the skilled trade side of things are like.
