  • Hi looking for a bit of help here, i recently missed out on a start at castle brom jag and have been phoned today about a start at solihull. With all the recent buzz around the jag plant will i be more vunerable at land rover? What is happening with the shifts as i have been told it is a 3 shift rota. . . Is it to change soon? Has anyone else been contacted and should i see if i can hold out for a start at jag.

Don't worry about it, you have a good, well paid job now. None of us know what is going to happen later so just go with it.

PS, forgot to add that there is no more intake at Castle Brom until at least the new year, and then those people will be on 10% less, so if you have the opportunity for Solihull now, I, personally would go for it.

  • Oh, sorry my mistake, I had it on very good authority but I suppose things change or people drop out.

    Well done and good luck.

Enjoy the Pera Training, make the most of it and get involved, as these things go it is one of the best courses I have been on (and I have been on a lot!). There are some days that can be a bit boring as there is lots of waiting but on the whole it is good.

You will be paid for the training (£11.95 ph)and yes it is a week in hand.

Body in white is awesome, albeit a dirty grimy job. If you don't mind callouses on your hands and the occasional cut ( you are using sheet metal) than you will enjoy it! You can tell body in white people instantly cus they seem to be the most unkempt lol. The work is not particulary hard, but does take some skill, especialy if your on framing!

I've got a start on the 10th and have been ear marked for BIW can you fill me in on the job ie. weekly wage overtime oppertunities what should i expect from the job? Any heads up would be good.

Body in white is where they make the chasis of the car, you will be working with heavy machinary and or welding. It's pretty easy work, and is classed as semi skilled. It's a dirty job, but quite a steady pace, and non of the work is overly difficult. Wages are same as everybody else, however, if your in E block over time is available sometimes due to us not hitting numbers becuase of breakdowns. The biggest piece of advice i can give you is keep your head down, and avoid getting involved in other peoples !!!!!!!!.

    thank you

Take home pay should be about £350 if you have a standard tax code.

We wore our safety boots for the first day but then were told they weren't necessary as we wouldn't be in a production environment, so wear them at first and see what is said.

As for clothing wear something comfortable (but not jeans) for the first day, you should be issued with your uniform on the first day which you will be expected to wear from then on.

On the last Friday of the training you will be fetched by the manager from the area you are going to and told all you need to know.
