note to op if you go down the route of using a developer ask them about there security procedures. 3rd party website builder site will also have procedures in place
They are all protected thanks.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
steve one of the plugins on your site is vulnerable to attack and your login page needs properly securing as there is not an instant weakness however there are attacks that could manipulate it?
Steve you are saying all your sites are secure are you saying that because you have done tests and know that or because you think they are0 -
Tested and working fine thanks. Please concentrate on your own business and stop worrying about mine.
I'm not going to reply to anymore posts.
Your IP address and ISP have been recorded and logged by the way....just in case.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
Im actually writing from a netted network and the isp is janet. It pretty much means im only tracable down to a university campus. however my username pretty much gives it away as to who I am and I have told you a website registered in my name.
I am more than capable of hiding my id online however I choose not to as I do not break the law and am part of organisations that srive for openness around web security.
I am a professional and I would not do anything that could be considered illegal without a full written contract of consent to penetration test a site!
I am more than happy to help you with securing your site. here is an article on wordpress's site that could help http://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress the article only goes part of the way but would fend off allmost all automated attacks that are taking place atm
you are not alone many people and large organisations burrie there head in the sand when it comes to security often because they dont really understand it. It is an issue that is slowly being delt with. your site would not be of interest to an experience cracker however a script kiddies first blood is more realistic.
Honestly be part of the solution not the problem0 -
Hi Nicky, here are my 2 cents.
Dreamweaver isn't cheap. I haven't checked the prices recently but Im sure its still pricey. I would personally go for a free solution rather than buying Dreamweaver. Ive found freeware in the past which have been decent but cant remember names as it was some time ago. There is going to be a learning curve with any software and probably quite a few headaches to get it right. If you are willing to invest the time and have a burning desire to build websites, go down this route.
For free website options there are usually some catches like advertising and/or you can't take advantage of SEO as much as with other solutions. I quite like Wordpress.com (no hosting fees) as its quite good SEO wise but you can't add a cart to it. It may be worth checking the Wordpress.com support forums to see if anyone is using Paypal to sell goods though. Its not as powerful as Wordpress.org.
Wordpress.org is a good solution but there is a learning curve here too and you need hosting. Hosting is cheap and I would recommend Vidahost for a well priced service with good customer service. You can go down 2 routes here. DIY or get someone to design it for you. Either way you should learn the ropes so you can get the most out of it. Some things to be aware of, security can be issue so make sure you look at this to tighten it up and get the whole site backed up regularly. As mentioned already Wordpress has loads of plugins which are like add ons to help you run your site. Things like social media share buttons, SEO to boost your content, contact forms and a whole lot more. Lots of free ones and some you have to pay for which are reasonably priced.
Also, I have to disagree with one of the above comments about free wordpress.org themes not looking professional. I've seen lots of good looking ones but you need to be careful with some which carry malicious code and other stuff. Their support forums are good and there are lots of resources on the net because there are so many users.
Personally I would go down the Wordpress.org route. The time you will spend learning how to build a website will probably be better spent learning how to use Wordpress and all the functionality that comes with it.0
