Further reading of 15.5 leads me to question what 'without terminating the agreement' refers to???0

Oops...it did go on here! Thought my first one hadn't loaded on!0

It's not going to be anyhting to do with money laundering, the OP was advised to withdraw all their money. All balances would have been frozen and no access allowed if it was ML.0

If nothing else I would certainly kick up a stink about them shutting your child's account - I know some bank (was it NatWest?) got a bit of bad publicity for wrongly shutting a child's account.
This quite worrying - Barclays seem to be closing a lot of accounts randomly recently - I've got the same account with them, mine was dormant for many years but I re-activated it and it must have had about 20k through it since (wages from the NHS so easily traceable) does worry me a bit that they might decide they dont want my money and shut my account...*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
That's exactly right!! My cheques can easily be traced to an executors account! Am really upset!! Not eaten now since Monday night....all I do is cry!! If they don't tell me why all I can see is the 'possible fraud' issue
too upset for words!!

This is an insane over-reaction. You have your money. You have your nice new account with Lloyds/TSB. WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM. You are starting to loose credibility.
What is your problem, shouting at someone and using words like insane? That's totally inappropriate and makes you lose credibility. I disagree with you but I'm not going to yell at you. The OP is under a lot of stress from the inconvenience and probably feeling accused of something they didn't do.
OP don't panic as you say the cheques can be traced to the executors account, you have nothing to hide. I would put a complaint in writing to the bank about the way this was handled.0 -
The reason it has upset me so much is as if they do suspect me of fraud that will surely go somewhere and affect my future in some way? Perhaps it is an over reaction...and as far as I am now aware any bank can take your account away for any reason as they do not have to tell you why! I am sure other people do get over wrought by things that others would not. It was a horrible day! I am going on away on Friday luckily within the uk so I should be able to find a branch of lloyds Incase I need money for whatever reason. I also have direct debits to pay which now I cannot as the bank made me withdraw all the money in my account so I need to contact them all and tell them what??? Oh yea...The bank have closed my account...just waiting for my new details?? Will they not ask me why? The people who are due to be paid on the 1st of the month will now not be paid on time as I do not have a debit card. It is all these things that have made me upset. I do worry, it is very easy for someone to ask me WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? I do not know if this has or would happen to anyone else who has not got upset or angry at the situation?? I suffer from stress and anxiety at the best of times!! Walking around for the past 2 days shaking has not been fun in the slightest, and the bank does not even have any inclination or any legal authority to tell me why they have done this to me without me thinking the worst? People deal with things in different ways, sorry if I offended you with the effects this has had on me!0

That is indeed a concern, however I think it is a premature concern until you have more evidence.
The "smart" approach to this is not to "assume" 15.5 applies ("I think they are going for 15.5...") but to ask them which clause formally in writing. BTW don't put words into their mouth, just ask the question. They must respond or be open to a Complaint which (on that issue) they would be bound to lose at FOS.
Once/if the clause is confirmed, that is the time to consider what the "reason" might be.
I have not closely followed every post, but do I correctly understand that one of the accounts "closed" was your Basic bank account and if so how long had it been open for?0 -
Yes it was barclays cash card account which is their basic account. I have contacted the FOS who have put a formal complaint in for me. When I asked why I was told it was due to no longer meeting the criteria for the account, implying 15.5, furthermore that clause provides 'without terminating this agreement' which I do not understand what it means!0

Sorry yes 3 accounts in total closed.y basic account, originally I thought I had had it for a few years but I opened it 18 months ago. Secondly, a savings account for me, opened at the same time and finally a child savings account which I opened on the 22nd March. The financial ombudsman have put a complaint for me as the bank did not give me notice. I still have not received the letter they sent me on the 26th march, but have a copy from the bank, telling me the account would be closed on the 9th April, but they have infact removed all banking facilities with immediate effect.0
