I change each year to find best deal. Lasy year I had enough clubcard points so went RAC. As usual renewal quote ridiculous and haggling just makes me in such a bad mood having to deal with salespeople so I am thinking of AA with Topcashback.
I would pay by card. However when I started completing details it only gives you the option of making a "regular" payment. I do not want this as I will not be accepting their ridiculous renewal at the end of the year but will be going elsewhere again. Any ideas?;)

Autoaid at £38 is a pay and claim full service including home start and recovery for insured and legal spouse / civil partner driving any car (note legal spouse / civil partner as that is an actual contractual term). You can call the garage of your choice or they will get one for you, pay that garage yourself and claim it back so if your mate is a registered business you could call him out and he would get paid. The only downside is that you would have to stump up for a long distance recovery but a good limit credit card would cover that situation.

    Thanks for that.

If I didn't want a 'pay and claim' service; is there anyone else you could suggest who would take care of any repair/recovery and cover the costs?

Does your car insurance offer anything, the past few years my insurers have offered reasonable rates usually for Green Flag etc.

To be honest; I don't know; but I will check.

I've just switched insurers from Aviva (£472.95 per annum) to Admiral (£228.55 per annum) so I'm not too familiar with any 'extras' the policy may have. Thanks for the suggestion though.

    Hi

I have read the whole post as well as the MSE article now and still can't make up my mind:o
It appears that reports of Autoaid are largely favourable and it is certainly a better price for a comprehensive service. My worry is whether I am "independent" enough for this service as discussed earlier. I know little about cars and would not know a good garage vs a bad one other than those I have experienced locally. I am quite capable of paying and claiming back but worry about how much the decision is with me about who to use etc and whether this means potentially being ripped off?
The AA with cashback (if it gets paid) is easier but I am extremely reluctant to sign up for any recurrent payment due to the hassle of having to cancel this later. I also do not want to risk giving the AA my telephone number to be bombarded by their extremely annoying sales calls.
What are peoples' experiences of these two issues and opinion on which of the two is the lesser evil? I've been trying to decide for days and breakdown cover has expired! My car is 3.5 years old by the way and I am only driver in household.
    Thanks for any advice.

Just to let you know; that I added breakdown cover to my car insurance policy . The cover is provided by Call Assist and provides local repair or recovery (which suits me) for £42.61 per annum.

Thanks for your help and advice.

is start rescue a decent service? I don't like using cashback as I very rarely actually receive it
  • Had a renewal quote for fully comp from Directline for £78 yesterday. Greenflag (who Directline own and use for their services) was £68.

Going through Quidco, i got £1 back for the quote and £50 cashback. All currently tracked.

Sounds to good to be true but thats £17 for fully comp UK roadcover!!

  • Does anyone have any advice?

I need breakdown cover, my car is 14 years old (though very reliable - I've had it 5 years with no problems). It is driven by myself and occasionally my boyfriend. Unfortunately it is too old to use the AA and RAC deals with cashback (from what I gather). Previously have used clubcard points and more recently AutoAid. However, I plan to finally get rid of the car in June when its MOT is due so I'd like something refundable. Anyone have any suggestions?
