Thank you so much for your reply custardly.

I was just wondering that if I put a current blue large letter stamp on a packet that weighs over 100g after the price increase will it be ok or will I have to add further stamps to make it up to the new cost.

I have posted about this many times now
a stamp with no stated value is valid for the current postal cost
so a 1st class large stamp is valid as a 1st class large letter stamp postage value.
however, you are saying your packet is over 100g
the lowest large letter price(as covered by the stamp) is 100g
you move up a price band from this
so are your scales out or have you been lucky?

if its a packet(as in too big for large letter) then it wont be

Please read what custardy has said, either you are seriously underpaying postage or you typed your post incorrectly.

If you are sending packets over 100g then the cheapest rate if £1.72- so you are underpaying by £1.14.

Yes, I was watching reports of 'rationing' on the news. They mentioned some one who had bought over £100 worth of stamps for their business, and all I could think of was 'is that all?'

Guess that person is just using those stamps for personal use maybe just for posting Christmas cards, birthday cards etc.....£100 worth of stamp is probably going to last a good few years at that rate:p

Have you stocked up yet? May I suggest one of these

    http://shop.royalmail.com/stamp-rolls/10000-1st-class-self-adhesive-stamp-roll/invt/prod36270038/

    That's what I would call rationing:rotfl:

Well that is well and truly a load of old crap from Royal Mail.

The only reason they have rationed the stamps is because they are so low on stock as they massively under estimated the amount of people that would bulk buy when the price change was announced.

Royal Mail have been down on their hands and knees in the last 2 weeks begging for the company they use to make the stamps to release their orders planned for the next 3 months. This is costing them a pretty penny or 2

I wish I had £100 to blow on stamps :(
the only drawback to being a private seller is that income varies from as little as a £1 profit some weeks, to £200 this last week (weeks like this are rare and few between)

There's no shortage of stamps in the Crown offices.
Nothing in your post makes any sense. Royal Mail would rather sell next month than this month, so why would they beg for more?
The idea behind this is to limit the numbers small retailers order, as they are clearly buying now to sell at the new price.
Of course, if they had any sense, they would now buy them from Post Offices.

Post office I use has machines that print stamps with first or first large letter, so no way it could run out (except maybe for blanks). The comments from Royal Mail that people stock piling would effect them is ridiculous, I'd have thought that people spending money up front for a service they may not use for a couple of years would benefit any business. Chances are that the percentage of people that forget they have the stamps or just lose them will balance out to make the costs end up the same anyway.
