Zziggi wrote:Yeah i was waiting for the magical 12 week point where all my sickness should stop.
When i was 5 weeks pregnant with my second one i told a good friend of mine who is a GP about my pregnancy. She, very matter-of-factly, informed me that if you have hyperemisis gravidum (severe morning sickness) in one pregnancy you will more than like it for other pregnancies - i mean could she not have told me EARLIER!
And i do want another one
I was sick mutiple times per day from day 5 until week 20, then down to about once a day, then it eventually tailed off around week 25. Anti sickness drugs, re-hydration etc, the works. Then I cried about 5 times a day for no reason until about week 30. Now, at 38 weeks I alternate between being sick & crying, neither as badly as when they were at their height but I think that's because I'm so huge I just don't have the energy to put into it anymore:eek::rotfl:
And I'm NEVER doing this again.........never, never, never, never, never.
And here's another tip for anyone who might be thinking of getting pregnant : if you want talking out of it, watch Desperate Midwives on BBC3. If you are already pregnant, don't watch desperate Midwives on BBC3 : You're better off not knowing:eek:Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
lol! i watched desperate midwives, it scared the life out of me, it's not as smiley and reassuring as portland babies is it :rotfl:
hyperemesis isn't pleasant but second time around i had a GP who treated me for it, first time around it was ignored so i got anaemic from all the blood i was vomiting and had constant UTI's. by the time i gave birth i was badly anaemic and needed blood, also my kidneys packed up so i needed jabs and had a catheter bag in for 4 days with all fluid going in and coming out getting counted, so bedbaths, tied to the bed during labour and had to try to hide the bag of wee dangling from the bed when i had visitors :rotfl: i didn't produce a single drop if breastmilk and i had pre-eclampsia. this time around there are some signs that i might have milk, and no signs of pre-eclampsia, so i'd definitely say to anyone who is sick a lot to get it checked out, a night in hospital on a drip can make the world of difference.
have we scared anyone off the idea yet ? :eek:52% tight0 -
LOL jellyhead.
I too suffered from pre-eclampsia and h.e.l.p syndrome and was in hospital for 5 weeks before baby was born (34 weeks & 3lb 6oz) and i said to myself then "never again" but a couple of glasses of wine later and i am now expecting baby number 2!! :rotfl: Not due till December but the pregnancy this time around has been so different...I cant eat anything with chocolate in it as it makes me feel extremely sick in fact i cant really eat anything sweet as i have an overwhelming urge to throw up if i do. Being a choccie addict i thought it would kill me not to eat chocolate but i am coping ..just!
There has been lots of good advice on here so far. I agree with not buying too many maternity clothes but in my case this time around i seem to have grow really big really quickly and had no choice BUT if you select a few key items then it shouldnt cost you too much (nice pair of jeans/trousers). I have bought a lot of t-shirts/vest tops from Matalan for a couple of quid (hate this hot weather!) and also bought their non wired bra's (£5 each) and find these quite comfy although if they get much bigger I will rival Jordan  .
I always say ignorance is bliss and as last time i had a c-section and dont know what labour is like i will be avoiding desperate midwives or i may never let the baby out if i watch it!! :rotfl:Brendan's new dance partner...please0 -
my asda stopped selling maternity clothes but i have been using their sports bras (unwired), they're only a fiver each which is handy if your size keeps changing. first time around i was buying new bras almost every week, i just kept inflating :rotfl: this time around i just inflated at the beginning and have stayed the same size, i cringe when i think of how much i spent on maternity bras during my first pregnancy, and i always got the nursing kind so i could breastfeed afterwards but they change size again when the milk arrives so i'm told, so you won't necessarily be the same bra size when feeding that you were while pregnant. this time around i bought the £5 bras from asda and the sleep bras from mothercare (an essential buy, breasts were too sore to sleep without a bra, right from 3 weeks pregnant) have drop down cups for breastfeeding to begin with, i'll use those sleep bras in hospital to begin with until i know which size nursing bra to buy, or if i have breastmilk at all.
good luck for december fillyi'm sure giving birth vaginally is no worse than a section, i can't imagine having a section, i know for sure i'd rather do it the other way. i don't remember much about my first birth, stitches etc. but i've had a couple of little ops through my tummy since then and each time i'm amazed at how much pain the little incisions for keyhole surgery cause, and think that if i had a section i'd never cope with the pain lol! so a vaginal delivery can't be all that bad

Well that's reassuring Jellyhead. I didnt really have a choice with the c-section and you are right about the pain - it was incredibly painful once the drugs wore off although whether or not that was my bodies was of saying it had had enough and just needed to rest i am not sure. If everything goes well this time then i think it will be a vaginal delivery (plus all the drugs they have!! i am not good with pain).
I have tried to get stuff from Asda but for me I can never get the right sizes, they are either too small or too big..Brendan's new dance partner...please0 -

This first link is ace, I used it with both of mine little ones and caught really quick. It tells you your fertile days for like six months. Don't get me wrong I did not study this at great lengths but handy to know you are trying somewhere around the right time or you could be missing your dates altogether (also best to asbstain for a few days before to increase count).

This second link has lots of lovely ultrasound pics to lookk thru when you are pregnant to give you an idea of how things are going in there!
Other points where my advice may help others:-
1. If breastfeeding is hurting at all, maybe consider nipple shields - I would have given up I think if I had not used these but I fed both of my LO's for a year each with them. I don't personally like the direct friction thing on my skin! I found disp. breast pads useless as fell to bits all the time, Lansinoh washable ones are really good.
2. I got a steriliser but never used it as breast fed for so long and just used to immerse the odd thing in boiling water to sterilise if necessary but I know some are happier to sterilise everything but each to their own.
3. You or other half could try evening work so you can switch care between the two of you. I know that you may not get to see each other as much but you save on child minding and your baby is only cared for by its parents so great for some.
4. I used my baby bath only about three times and it cost me £30 for a set. I personally would not bother with one as can be messy and if you have it out the bath you have to break your back trying to lift it to empty it! I bought a frame thing for about £8 from John Lewis with a flanelette cover on which I used to take the cover off each time wring out then hang up to dry to stop it getting smelly!
5. If you want Pampers but think they are too expensive, join the Pampers club get money off vouchers and just buy the big packs in bulk when they are in offer in Boots (2 for £13 or something) and get when 500 points on baby stuff as they prob. end up cheaper this way then supermarket ones.
6. Don't rush to buy loads of bottles, my first one was fine with Avent bottles and then the second one had to try almost every bottle available before I found one with a teat that she liked! Lots of friends have told me they have had similar probs!!!
7. For the person with the question on pushchairs - I got the Maclaren Techno XT, I am almost 5ft 7" and my OH 6ft 2" and we both find this great for us and neither find it uncomfortable to push. They bring new fabrics out all the time so you can always find one cheaper than the very latest colour. I got mine at https://www.kiddicare.com
And last of all, follow your heart and your head! After all, you know what is best for your baby and what works for one won't work for others!!!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL TRYING...
Ps. I have a word doc for all the things needed for a hospital bag if anyone is interested get in contact and I can e-mail it to you !0
