  • Look in the local papers for Nearly New sales. You can pick up some wonderful things at bargin prices. It is true that most things on the market are never used, so as long as you can feed, cloth and have a place for your baby to sleep you really can save a fortune.
You can easily get away with second hand clothes in the early days as the grow so quickly and don't get a chance to ruin clothes, once on solids though this isn't so easy.
Have yur friends round for a baby shower... for the price of a few nibbles it is amazing what your mates will fork out on.
Buy things as you need them as your baby gets older, it is amazing how much people are willing to give things away like toys etc and you may find that sooner or later you might get offered something you are after.

    Thank you!

We haven't told anyone yet not even parents! I want to wait and see if everything is ok.

    I am very scared!

SIL just had a baby in March so hoping we can beg, steal and borrow stuff from her, its her second so I think she will be done with it now. I know my parents will be wanting to get stutt, it will be there first grandchild.

    Any tips would be helpful!

Personally I was shocked at their standard tarrifs & I felt that their ante-natal (parentcraft?) classes were over priced (don't know if it varies area to area) & not particaually good value for what they offered ME, however they do suit others & offer a great benefit to many parents. I was just trying to highlight to Ancaster that this is a cost she might like to take into consideration;).

Hi, I just though I'd confirm that the cost of the NCT ante-natal classes does vary a lot depending on where you live. We've just paid £70 for 6 sessions which I think is quite low. But I have read on another baby forum that people in London & the south east have had to pay nearer £200.

It's also worth pointing out that you don't have to join the NCT to take part in the classes, so if you don't want to join, you can just deduct the £36 joining fee from the cost of the classes.

I decided to book because I had heard that on the whole they are much better than NHS classes, but again that depends on what your NHS offers you. As all the NHS classes in my area are now cancelled, I'm very glad I did now!

There's a thread about the NCT somehwere in this forum if anyone is interested...if anyone wants to do the classes you MUST make enquiries as early as you can, as it was thanks to that advice in the other thread that I got my name down early ( at 12 weeks pregnant) & was offered a place a few weeks ago. If I'd left it till now I'd never have got in, they get booked up very quickly.

aww jess congratulations!! :T MSE was the first place i told people about my pregnancy, my husband didn't want me telling people too soon, people are superstitious and like to wait until 12 weeks, but i told him it's okay to talk about it on MSE because nobody knows my family lol! i kept it secret for all of about 2 days, the morning sickness started and i went up 2 bra sizes before i was even 4 weeks pregnant and everyone could tell :rotfl:

    Thanks Jellyhead!

I don't think I will keep it from people for too long, I am worried everyone can tell already and all I said was that I had a doctors appointment and I'm sure I looked shifty!

Will have to tell my Mum soon as we are very close and I think she will guess soon. Especially when we go to hers tonight and I don't drink!

i'm a very bad liar, i could never have kept it secret, if people actually say 'oooh, you're not pregnant are you' when you're being sick and stuff it's difficult to lie to them lol! my husband only wanted us to keep it quiet for a bit so we could gradually get my other son used to the idea. i still told my mum straight away though :D
