work knew straight away, my female boss was asking if i was pregnant before i even knew i was. i got a test and couldn't really tell, so i got another one and couldn't tell with that one either lol! so work knew that the GP had sent a test off and that came back positive. not everyone gets symptoms early though. even at 3 weeks pregnant i was sick every time i smelled cheese, i screamed in pain if anyone came near my chest let alone brushed against it, i went up 2 bra sizes. so i had to get a bigger uniform shirt at work, i was sick all day because i worked in mcdonalds, their food smells foul at the best of times :rotfl:

i thought i must be imagining things because the morning sickness and the aversion to cheese (especially pizza, much to the disgust of my husband lol!) started only 3 days after conception and only 7 days after LMP. it was far too early for symptoms but when i had a scan they changed my due date by ten days so that made more sense, i wasn't 12 weeks pregnant i was nearly 14 weeks.

sorry for going off topic lol! but yes, that's how come everyone knew straight away, i had early symptoms that i couldn't hide, and people were asking me before i'd even thought of testing. we'd been trying for 3 years so it was a bit of a surprise :D my sister was never sick and she kept all her pregnancies secret for the first 12 weeks.

My 2 pregnancies weren't as secret for long either because of the sickness. I was sick all day from about 4 to 14 weeks. Best thing to do to keep it under control is to eat before you even sit up in bed and continue eating all day long - i used to constantly walk around with a packet of custard creams!! The moment i got even slightly hungry i would be sick and once i felt sick i couldn't eat which made it worse. With Pg.1 OH used to leave me marmalade sandwiches by the bed to eat as soon as i woke up as i had to catch a bus to work and if i didn't eat them i was too sick to get on the bus - if eaten quickly enough i could fend off the sickness until i reached the bus station or even work if i was lucky.

Ginger nut biscuits are also supposed to be good.

    any kind of biscuit :D

eating before you get up is supposed to help balance your blood sugar after a long sleep/starvation. keeping biscuits by the bed really does help. it's unhealthy i know but boiled sweets worked for me. fizzy pop too, i normally don't like it. also, not brushing my teeth for at least an hour after waking, if i did it too soon i was sick. think of all the sickness as moneysaving, if you hardly eat a thing early on you'll have enough saved to indulge your later cravings for fresh strawberries every 2 minutes :D

Blimey Jellyhead, I though my morning sickness started early at 5 days after conception but 3 days beats me!!! I had to tell work at 3 weeks gone beacuse I'd had so much time off sick. I told my parents on Christmas eve when I was 5 weeks gone beacuse we were staying with them for 3 days & no way were they not going to guess given the amount of time I spent in the bathroom & my sudden aversion to all sorts of smells, otherwise I wouldn't have told them for a good few weeks longer. And biscuits, ginger or otherwise, didn't help in the slightest:rolleyes::p.

My HV ran a babies group,(bit like a mums and tots for newborns)
one morning a week from newborn onwards. Most people left as their child started to walk. It was held in a room at our GPS surgery and was free. They had mats and lots of toys there for baby. There were drinks provided and this was the only thing we had to contribute to. I did fund-raising for the tea/coffees and raised about £40.

You could get baby weighed there and because the HV ran the sessions you could always talk to her about any concerns you had.

I got to know loads of mums from this group and see them now at mums and tots. Some of their children will be with my daughter at pre-school in Sept and in the same school nursery next year.

there's a toddler group at the salvation army hall near me, that's only 50p per session i think and includes juice and biscuit for the toddler. they also do cheap days out. because it's on the way to nursery and school i'm hoping to meet lots of mums and kids my baby will be at school and nursery with.

lillibet i suppose 3 days does sound ridiculously early, and at the time it seemed silly because i must have ovulated on the day my LMP stopped, but i think the plane journey to disneyland paris affected things, i had horrible pain in my ovary so maybe the pressure in the plane made the egg pop out lol! i should try flying again, see if the baby pops out :D . i just knew i'd ovulated that day though, and i 'felt' pregnant after a couple of days, never happened before in 3 years of trying, most people don't notice their cycle that much but having pcos means i'm a slave to my hormones and i always know when i ovulate. the scan confirmed it, they GP gives an approx date based on conception on day 14 of the cycle but the scan lady said i concieved 10 days before that, she thought it was quite sweet that my husband and i both said 'oh that would be our wedding anniversary', aren't we soppy :rotfl:

i told everyone i'd be having a boy based on the early conception (dr shettles method) and they all thought i was nuts but i was right. i really wanted a girl so it helped to know right from the start that it would probably be a boy. there's an idea for moneysaving - if you know somebody who has a load of stuff for a boy (or a girl) try the shettles method and make sure your baby is the right sex, then borrow everything :T

I was sick repeatedly every day from being 3 weeks pregnant until i was about 26 weeks pregnant (sick dozen plus times a day). Then from 26 weeks until 42 weeks (went overdue) i felt constantly sick and was sick about once a day. IT WAS AWFUL. I was in hospital almost constantly on a drip because i quite literally didn't keep anything down for the first 26 weeks and after that i could sip water only. It really was terrible. i was crying constantly because it was so damn awful. i lost about 5 stone and i weighed less at full-term then i did before i was pregnant. i was practically bed-bound my whole pregnancy. I had the most boring diet ever from 26 weeks - full-term - quite literally water & plain bread and stuff through a drip for most of my pregnancy.... then produced a 10lb 1oz baby  I swore i was never going to have another one EVER.

Within 3 months i was pregnant with another one (and had the same probs) then a month after he was born i was pregnant with dd.

Whatever you go through during pregnancy - IT IS ALWAYS WORTH IT

and here was me thinking i have smaller than average babies because i don't eat much in pregnancy lol! this time i've been in hospital twice on a drip for rehydration, if you do get terrible sickness don't just struggle with it, dehydration can lead to nasty UTI's. my main sickness lasted until about week 24, i looked forward to that magical 12 week time when everyone says it should stop, after that there were just the people who had it all the way through making me cry whenever they told me how ill they were lol! you do forget it afterwards though, and even the women who spent months in hospital on drips go on to have more babies, it doesn't put anyone off :rotfl: you forget it all when you have a snuggly little newborn screaming at you :D

Yeah i was waiting for the magical 12 week point where all my sickness should stop.

When i was 5 weeks pregnant with my second one i told a good friend of mine who is a GP about my pregnancy. She, very matter-of-factly, informed me that if you have hyperemisis gravidum (severe morning sickness) in one pregnancy you will more than like it for other pregnancies - i mean could she not have told me EARLIER!

And i do want another one

Once you have a child you are entitled to tax credits so long as you are on a low income and while a child is under one you get a bit more. You need to apply for this and can do this on line with the inland revenue website or by phone on 0845 3003900. Also don't forget you can get help with childcare cost if you are entitled to working tax credit.
Your local CAB or the like can sometimes do a quick calculation to let you know roughly what you will get and this can help you budget.
Also if one of you is self employed get the child benefit paid in their name as this safe guards their national insurance contribution record through the home responsibilities protection scheme. If you are both self employed have another baby and get the other one to get the child benefit for that one! (Or is that a bit drastic?) This also confuses the revenue which is always worth doing just for the fun of it!
I would echo all that has been said about not buying into the whole you must have this and that... J cloths work fine as wipes, old fleeces cut up make excellent nappy liners, Use a bit of ribbon to tie a dummy to a clothes peg instead of buying a posh clip thingy from mothercare, make food and freeze it in small containers, don't buy loads of maternity clothes, buy some stuff a few sizes too big at jumble sales or car boots etc, My mum lent me some of her trousers and they were fine while I was pregnant.
If it aint broke don't fix it!
    God bless
